This site is located on the east side of Santenay, near the edge of Chassagne-Montrachet. There is more clay on the west side of the commune and more oolite limestone here. Clay soils give pinot noir a bigger profile with more fruit and opulence; the limestone in La Comme gives more finesse and structure. Lequin’s vines in La Comme are over 45 years old, further improving upon the structure of the wine each year. Similar to his other reds, François ferments La Comme with native yeasts in barrique, with only up to 20% of new oak. Elevage lasts a total of 15 months before bottling, with the first 12 in barrique and the last 3 in stainless.
