There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. The 2018 La Reserve De Malartic is the second wine of Château Malartic-Lagravière. It’s a medium to full-bodied, fleshy, impressively concentrated Graves that has ample fruit, some subtle oak and graphite, and classic earthy minerality. This beautifully balanced 2018 is going to drink nicely right out of the gate.

The 2018 La Réserve de Malartic-Lagravière is a very pretty, fruity wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Hints of iron, cedar, tobacco, mint and dried herbs add an attractive, savory touch. There is, in my view, a bit too much oak that is felt in the slightly aggressive tannins, but that won't be an issue if the 2018 is enjoyed over the next handful of years.
