Founded in 1991 in La Canoca by the Eguren family of Sierra Cantabria, the 2021 San Vicente is 100% Tempranillo from the highest area of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the grapes a massal selection of a nearly extinct variety called Tempranillo Peludo. The vines are well-balanced to the region and climate and have profound acidity. Bordeaux barrels age the wine for 20 months. Salty and earthy, it has an old-world quality accented in rich black fruit, sous bois, oak spice, graphite, and dried herb, finishing with a complex finesse that should keep it singing another 20-25 years.

The 2021 San Vicente showcases the completeness of the year with a rare combination of power and elegance, with intensity of fruit, clout and very good freshness and the roundness of the tannins from the year. It has a lot of everything; the selection of Tempranillo used for this wine gave a lot of color, notes of aromatic herbs and ripe berry fruit and a solid palate, but it's fine-boned, with a beautiful texture. It's still young but already shows incipient complexity. It absorbed the new oak (French and American) pretty early, and the aromas and flavors are very integrated. It should be very long lived. This is one of the finest vintages for San Vicente. 50,000 bottles. It was bottled in August 2023.

A muscular red, offering an initially compact feel that then opens nicely in the glass and on the palate, revealing a concentrated range of ripe black currant and black cherry fruit, with a fleshy hint of green olive, plus fragrant thyme, rosemary, licorice and mineral accents. Framed by limber tannins that firm the fresh, focused finish. Best from 2026 through 2041.

Juicy black fruit sits alongside a chalky nuance on the palate. Plush yet structured tannins shape a wine that currently feels somewhat closed. Given time, its noble, complex character should emerge more clearly.

Deep cherry red colour. Complex nose with balsamic, ripe fruit and licorice notes. Fresh and round sensations fresh and round sensations in the mouth, with volume and excellent balance. Finishes with an intense aftertaste.
