Riesling

Riesling grapes have been grown in and around central Europe for centuries, and over time, they became the lasting symbol of south Germany's ancient and proud wine culture. Whilst the reputation of German wines abroad has in the past been mixed, the Germans themselves take an enormous amount of pride in their wineries, and Riesling grapes have now spread around the globe, growing anywhere with the correct climate in which they can thrive. Riesling grape varietals generally require much cooler climatic conditions than many other white grapes, and they are generally considered to be a very 'terroir expressive' varietal, meaning that the features and characteristics of the terroir they are grown on comes across in the flavors and aromas in the bottle. It is this important feature which has allowed Riesling wines to be elevated into the category of 'fine' white wines, as the features of the top quality bottles are generally considered to be highly unique and offer much to interest wine enthusiasts.

New York state has a wine history which stretches back to the mid-17th century, when Dutch settlers first began cultivating grape vines in the Hudson Valley. A beautifully elegant dry riesling with white flower, pear and white peach aromas. The balance of fruit, restrained minerality and spring-like freshness is really delightful. Very impressive length, the finish feeling almost weightless. Drink or hold.

The 2023 Riesling includes 5% that was fermented in acacia wood and blended with the stainless-steel portion after six months. This taster would be hard-pressed to say there was any noticeable signature as a result, but the wine is still excellent. Scents of green apple and lime predominate on the nose, with subtle accents of crushed stone, agave syrup and flower-shop greens. Medium-bodied and quite dry (12% alcohol and five grams per liter of residual sugar), it's also reasonably concentrated and viscous on the palate, with a lingering richness on the finish.
