Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.

Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is cool-toned and remarkably pretty, scents of fresh wild herbs and peppery florals giving way to crushed woodland berries and a contrasting flourish of blood orange. Its textures are like pure silk, energized by zesty acidity and becoming quite spicy over time, as tart cherry-berry flavors and saline-minerals saturate deeply.
Grippy tannins come forward through the licorice-tinged finale as this tapers off slightly structured, almost salty and remarkably fresh. The 2017 possesses all of the traits of a classic Voliero Brunello, and it’s only in the slightly gruff tannins that you find any mark of the warm, dry vintage. This is exceptional.
The name of this grape, meaning 'blood of Jove' conjures up evocative images of long dead civilizations, and gives the Sangiovese varietal a sense of the holy, the sacred, the special. Indeed, this particular type of Italian grape has been cultivated and processed for thousands of years, and is said to be the original favorite grape varietal of the Romans, and the Etruscans before them. Throughout history, vintners have continued to plant this varietal, and they continue to produce wonderful wines to this day. The long bunches of very dark, round fruit are treasured by fine wineries in Italy and a few other places around the world, and when young, these grapes are lively – full of strawberry flavors and a little spiciness. However, it is when they are aged in oak that they take on some truly special flavors and aromas, as seen in some of the finest wines of the Old World.

The Voliero 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is a robust expression with dark fruit, earth and oak spice. The wine shows thick concentration with black cherry and plum. It has the proverbial shoulders (the tannins and the acidity) to support it all. Leather and tobacco play supporting roles, and the wine is also characterized by dry clay and crushed stone. Some 7,600 bottles (and 133 magnums) were filled, and you can drink this bottle straight out of the gate.

Uccelliera’s Andrea Cortonesi produces a second label called Voliero. The vineyards are on the way to Sant’Angelo in Colle,reaching 420 metres above sea level. He bottles these separately so as not to change the profile of Uccelliera, which is made from lower-lying vineyards around Castelnuovo dell’Abate. Where Uccelliera shows heavy, macerated fruit in 2017, Voliero offers an appetising mineral lift and tangy savouriness of acidity. It is nonetheless full and rich, with flavours of sweet herb and spiced plum.
Winery Notes
• 100% Sangiovese from 15-25 year old vines grown in clay soils.
• Cold maceration with the skins at 10-12 degrees Celsius (the number of days depends on the characteristics of the grapes).
• Fermentation in steel with temperature control for 20/25 days.
• Maturation in large Slavonian and French oak casks (20-50 Hl) for 30 months.
