The vineyard at Château Lascombes is, at 120ha, one of the largest in Margaux and, unusually for a Left Bank château, is planted 50% to Merlot. In 2017, the grand vin contained 40% Merlot, alongside 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. Aged in barrel for 18-20 months. Georgie Hindle: A dark, seductive, intense nose. Super-confident winemaking on show – a full style, well structured with plenty of impact. Gorgeous graphite, dark chocolate, sweet liquorice and cinnamon give texture and spice. Vincenzo Arnese: Good aromas of figs, prunes and dry, dark cherry. Oak gives sweet, spicy, woody aromas. Palate is powerful, with good freshness, and intense tannins. A very warm finish. Classic. Andy Howard MW: This could only be a classed growth from Bordeaux. It’s intense yet restrained. Focused. Dark fruits, with a mineral graphite edge. With fresh acidity, structured for long-term ageing, yet it’s appealing now. ... More details

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Lascombes leaps from the glass with black raspberries, mulberries and blackcurrant pastilles with hints of earth, herbs, meats and cedar. Medium-bodied, it has plenty of juicy fruit and is fresh and plush, finishing long with a mineral lift.

A ripe juicy wine, this is restrained for this estate. The tannins and ripe black fruits are balanced by the acidity and elegant backdrop. It will age well, likely to be ready from 2024.

Impressive ripeness for the vintage with plum and light dark-chocolate character. Ripe, creamy tannins that are polished and pretty to taste. Full-bodied, but not too much. Flavorful finish. A blend of 57% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 3% petit verdot. Drink in 2022.

Deep purple-colored, the 2017 Chateau Lascombes offers up a rocking bouquet of blackcurrants, mocha, espresso roast, tobacco, and cedary spice. Beautifully concentrated, medium to full-bodied, and opulent even on the palate (which isn’t the case for many wines), it's beautifully balanced, has ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. This is a hedonistic yet beautifully balanced, stunning 2017 that will drink nicely for 20 years or more.

The 2017 Lascombes is dark, plush and sumptuous, as it so often is. A wine with no hard edges and tons of immediacy, Lascombes will be hard to resist pretty much upon release. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, menthol, licorice and lavender infuse the 2017 with striking depth as well as character. Readers should expect a racy, unapologetically flamboyant style.

This features lots of perfume, with lilac, sandalwood, savory and bergamot notes working together, backed by a silky core of cassis and black cherry fruit. The elegant finish shows sneaky length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2032. 15,833 cases made.
Winery
Combining power and elegance, smoothness and tannins, Château Lascombes is a wine of great complexity. In its youth, its depth of colour never fails to impress. Finesse and softness on the palate are complemented by stylish, fine-grained tannins. Chateau Lascombes should be enjoyed as it ages over the years to enable full appreciation of its aromatic complexity and the development of its ever-more suave structure in bottle.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

The blended red wines of Bordeaux have gone down in history as the finest wines every produced, with collectors and many of the general public still eagerly anticipating the wineries of this region's new releases to this day. The secret to Bordeaux's monumental success has been their careful blending of high quality grape varietals, controlled and protected by French law. In Bordeaux, wineries can only produce red wines using a blend of two or more of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec or Carménere grape varietals, with the latter two becoming less and less commonly seen on bottles. The vast majority of Bordeaux red wines use Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varietals, boosted by a little Petit Verdot. These three grapes compliment each other beautifully as they age in oak, rounded out their tannins and the high astringency of the Sauvignon, and resulting in wonderfully complex flavors and aromas.

Region: Bordeaux

Although most commonly associated with their superb blended red wines, the world-famous region of Bordeaux in France is responsible for a relatively wide array of wines, ranging from the sweet and viscous white wines of Sauternes, to the dry and acidic single variety white wines found all over the region. However, it is the red wines which regularly make the wine world's headlines, and have historically been regarded as the finest on earth. The secret to the region's success is the fact that the warm and humid climate, coupled with mineral rich clay and gravel based soils produces grapes of excellent quality. Wineries in this region have spent hundreds of years mastering the art of blending and oak aging in order to get the best results from each grape, and remain the envy of the world to this day.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.

Appellation: Margaux

The Bordeaux region of France is packed full of important and highly esteemed appellations and sub-regions, but few are as famous of highly esteemed as Margaux, a beautiful small appellation in the Médoc, on the right bank of the Gironde river. In Margaux, the wine-makers of the various chateaus which cover the region have a powerful reputation for excellence to uphold, and go about doing so by ensuring traditional techniques are observed, high quality grapes are used and absolute love and precision go into every single bottle. Margaux almost always makes blended red wines, made from various red Bordeaux grapes. Such grapes thrive in the gravelly, mineral rich soils of the region, and ripen fully under the hot sun, thus expressing all of the finest features of their varietal, and of the terroir they grow on.
