Enticing floral scents of rose and iris mingle with red fruit and aromatic herbs on this stunning wine. The elegant, structured palate doles out strawberry, sour cherry, clove and white pepper alongside bright acidity while noble, refined tannins provide the backbone. Give this a few more years to fully develop. Drink 2020 through 2028. (Cellar Selection)

The Ceretto 2013 Barbaresco Asili shows very nicely. The wine presents a slightly herbal personality with dried sage and rosemary that add to the balsamic intensity of the bouquet. Those characteristics contribute to a sense of vertical buoyancy and serve to underline the integrity of the fruit and oak-driven spice that are at the base of this wine. The results show impressive depth and lingering Nebbiolo flavors.

A heady mix of cherry, tar and spice marks this lacy, elegant red. Builds with intensity to a long, lingering finish. Well-balanced, but needs time to absorb the oak. Best from 2019 through 2033. 210 cases made, 40 cases imported.
Winery
Forest floor, rose, iris, woodland berry, new leather and camphor aromas are front and center. The lean, liner palate is still youthfully austere, offering sour cherry, roasted coffee bean, star anise and botanical herbs set against vibrant acidity and assertive, close-grained tannins. Pairs well with mushrooms and first courses.

Piedmont isn't all about beautifully complex red wines, though, as it is also famed for high quality, elegant sparkling wines, notably the Asti wines made with the white Moscato grape. The region benefits from a range of terroirs which are often well expressed in the sparkling wines, and a wonderfully consistent climate ideal for vineyard cultivation.
