Overflowing with elegance and varietal purity, the 2019 Syrah Sequel offers a crystalline and focused nose with elements of dark cherry, baked earth and dusty flowers with a harmonious and floral lift from 30% whole clusters. Full-bodied and clocking in at 15% alcohol on the label, it doesn’t seem as heavy-handed and bold on the palate. The wine demonstrates considerable restraint, exuding elegance and finesse with succulent red fruit and subtly spiced potpourri tones. If you’re looking for a big, beefy Syrah with black peppercorns in your face, this is not it. However, if you're looking for a floral, fresh, elegant style of Syrah, look no further! Just over 25,500 bottles were filled after the wine rested for 18 months in all French oak, 65% new. Give it a try! ... More details

Musky black currants, dried violets, grilled herbs and mocha can all be found as the 2019 Syrah Sequel smolders up from the glass. This is a textural animal, velvety-smooth with sleek contours and polished ripe black fruits. It leaves a staining of primary concentration and subtle coating of fine tannins that remind the taster of just how young this is today. Blue and purple inner florals slowly fade. The Sequel was fermented using 35% whole clusters followed by refinement for 18 months in 65% new French oak.

The 2019 Syrah Sequel is a big, rich, meaty, powerful beauty offering copious amounts of ripe black fruits as well as ground pepper, chocolate, graphite, and spicy oak all soaring from the glass. It packs a punch, as always, with its ripe, sexy style, yet it shows the cooler, elegant style of the vintage beautifully and is balanced, has ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's going to cruise for 10-12 years in cold cellars.

Aromas of dark berries, ground pepper and leather. Full-bodied with chewy tannins. The palate is rich, but there is lift and good definition within the fruit profile. Nuanced. Black licorice and spice. Best after 2024.
Winery
Darkly-hued with cherry and cassis aromas to match, this is a focused Syrah loaded with black fruit, spice and a hint of vanilla across a supple frame. Give it time in the glass to fully reveal the wine's layers of fruit and concentration.

Varietal: Syrah

Whilst there remains plenty of debate over which is the 'correct' name for the Shiraz/Syrah grape varietal, nobody is in any doubt about the influence and popularity this grape has had over recent decades. For centuries, this varietal has been used in single variety and blended wines in the regions of France it is most closely associated with, yet the 20th century saw it become one of the definitive grape varietals of New World red wines, where its big, robust character and spicy, berry-rich flavors proved to be a hit with international audiences. Today, Shiraz/Syrah is said to be the seventh most widely planted grape varietal in the world, and is used for a remarkably wide variety of quality red wines – including still, sparkling and fortified varieties.

Region: Washington State

Since it began in the 1820s, wine-production in Washington state has gone from strength to strength, with many of the finest United States wines coming out over the past twenty years hailing from this region. Today, the state is the second largest US producer of wines, behind California, with over forty thousand acres under vine. The state itself is split into two distinct wine regions, separated by the Cascade Range, which casts an important rain shadow over much of the area. As such, the vast majority of vines are grown and cultivated in the dry, arid desert-like area in the eastern half of the state, with the western half producing less than one percent of the state's wines where it is considerably wetter. Washington state is famed for producing many of the most accessible wines of the country, with Merlot and Chardonnay varietal grapes leading the way, and much experimentation with other varietals characterizing the state's produce in the twenty-first century.

Country: United States

Of all the New World wine countries, perhaps the one which has demonstrated the most flair for producing high quality wines - using a combination of traditional and forward-thinking contemporary methods - has been the United States of America. For the past couple of centuries, the United States has set about transforming much of its suitable land into vast vineyards, capable of supporting a wide variety of world-class grape varietals which thrive on both the Atlantic and the Pacific coastlines. Of course, we immediately think of sun-drenched California in regards to American wines, with its enormous vineyards responsible for the New World's finest examples of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot based wines, but many other states have taken to viticulture in a big way, with impressive results. Oregon, Washington State and New York have all developed sophisticated and technologically advanced wine cultures of their own, and the output of U.S wineries is increasing each year as more and more people are converted to their produce.
