The 2018 Barón de Magaña is a red blend produced with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from their oldest vineyards, looking for a fresher wine that expresses the limestone soils from their vineyards. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and had a short maceration at no more than 28 degrees Celsius. It matured in second use French oak barrels for 12 months. It has a bright ruby color and an expressive nose of berries and herbs, very spicy and with a medium-bodied palate and polished tannins. Not the style I like most but very pleasant nonetheless. 11,000 bottles were filled in August 2021. ... More details

Wine Spectator
A medium-bodied red, with smoke and grilled herb notes making for a fragrant thread that winds through baked black cherry, fig cake and green olive flavors. Fresh and balanced, with fine, chalky tannins emerging on the moderate finish. Drink now. 1,000 cases made, 500 cases imported.
Winery
A medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, tremendous lushness and purity, and a beautifully textured, round, generous finish.

Country: Spain

Ever since the Phoenicians and Romans brought their knowledge of vine cultivation to Spanish soils, the country's culture has grown alongside wine production, with wine being a vital part of Spanish identity and Spanish traditions. Each region of Spain has a wine quite distinct from the others, and it is produced by smallholders and families as much as it is by large companies and established wineries. From the relatively mild and lush regions of La Rioja to the arid plateaus that surround Madrid, grapes are grown in abundance for the now booming Spanish wine industry, and new laws and regulations have recently been put in place to keep the country's standards high. By combining traditional practices with modern technology, Spanish wineries are continuing to produce distinctive wines of great character, flavor and aroma, with the focus shifting in recent decades to quality over quantity.
