The 2018 Chinon Clos du Chene Vert, Monopole is one of the top wines from Joguet, offering pure black fruit and even some mint chocolate aromas, in addition to the telltale signs of classy oak use evident in its rich, rounded vanilla notes. In the mouth, you can expect a fuller-bodied style of Cabernet Franc that never becomes heavy or lush. It retains its freshness on the finish, reminding you that we might be in a hot vintage in the Loire, but we're still in the Loire. Fine, sand-like tannins sit in the mouth while the oak-derived vanillins and dark fruit linger on the long, sinewy finish. ... More details

Winery
The Clos du Chêne Vert is one of the mythical places of Chinon, located in the city itself, at the Haute Olive, on the right bank of the Vienne river. The very steep slope of this clos of two small hectares, its south-west orientation and its clay and silico-calcareous soil explain why it is one of the oldest crus of the whole appellation. The place owes its name to the monumental holm oak overhanging it, growing back from a tree more than eight hundred years old planted by the monks of the Abbey of Bourgueil in the 12th century.

Varietal: Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc is not simply an important grape varietal for the fact that it is one of the most widely grown strains of vine in the world, but also because it is a vital grape in the production of many of the finest wines the world has ever seen. For centuries in its native France, it has been a varietal synonymous with elegance and high quality, and has become a key fruit in the production of the Bordeaux and Bordeaux-style blended wines which have gone down in history thanks to their magnificent flavors, aromas and levels of aged complexity. However, Cabernet Franc is also a wine grape varietal for use in single variety, unblended wines, and has plenty to offer on its own. Most commonly, it is renowned for its wide bouquet, which often includes fascinating notes of tobacco, violets or bell pepper over a beautifully pale and decadent liquid.

Region: Loire Valley

In France, the region most closely associated with the production of fine white wines is the Loire Valley, a particularly fertile and temperate region near the Atlantic coast. This reputation is certainly justified, and the Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc vines which flourish in this region produce both dry and dessert wines of exquisite character and flavor However, the region is also responsible for some seriously high quality Cabernet Franc based wines, such as those found in the sub-region of Chenin, and plenty of elegant bubbly crémant wines, which are often fruitier and more lively than those found in Champagne, and with a character all of their own. The Loire Valley is an ancient wine region, with archaeological evidence dating wine production in this area back to the first century.
