The 2017 Carbonnieux is dark and intense in the glass. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit in this decidedly potent, Pessac-Léognan. Orange peel, incense, spice, sweet tobacco and cedar add a super appealing exotic flair as the 2017 builds with time in the glass. Another few years in bottle should help things come together even more fully. ... More details

The ripeness of this wine creeps up slowly to reveal swaths of black fruits and a densely tannic core. The wine is layered with acidity that balances the black-currant flavors. The wine will age well. Drink from 2023. (Cellar Selection)

This packs solid blackberry, red currant and boysenberry fruit paste flavors together, all inlaid with tar and licorice snap notes. A bold brambly edge infuses the finish with grip and energy. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2022 through 2035. 10,000 cases made.

This has attractively fresh and ripe, cassis and blackcurrant aromas. The palate has measured shape and a supple, fleshy feel with plenty of depth to the cassis and blueberries. Drink or hold.

The 2017 Château Carbonnieux is also more than a little impressive. This medium-bodied, balanced, elegant red gives up notes of cassis, spring flowers, and classy oak. It’s not massive by any stretch yet excels on its balance and purity.

Intense fruit flavours on the nose, with clear definition to raspberry, blueberry and brambly fruits. Medium bodied and a little soft through the mid palate, but plenty to enjoy over the next six to 12 years. Drinking Window 2023 - 2038.
Winery
The vinification, both modern and traditional of red wines, is carried out by slow and gentle extraction in order to preserve the roundness of the wine and the mineral features of the soil. The tannins are well balanced and silky in harmony with red fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry…) and reveal toasted notes from ageing in the finest quality French oak barrels. Only the very best batches tasted are selected for the final blending of Château Carbonnieux red wines. Wine and food pairing : all grilled, roast, or stewed meat, swordfish, tuna fish, cheese, chocolate desserts…

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

Bordeaux red wines are widely regarded as being the finest red wines produced anywhere in the world, regularly topping awards lists and generally being amongst the most sought after and collectable bottles available. The secret to their success and their particularly memorable and refined characteristics is the fact that Bordeaux red wines are made from a blend of grape varietals, most commonly from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, helped by a touch of Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc. The other two key Bordeaux grape varietals which are also used in the blend of many of these excellent wines are Malbec and Carménere, although it is becoming less common to see these in use today. The art of blending primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varietals is something which has been much imitated around the world, as it produces a wonderfully balanced, rounded yet massively complex and flavorful wine, ideal for oak aging The acid and tannin levels in each of these grape varietals is balanced and tempered by the blend, and generations of expertise has gone into the careful selection and cultivation of such quality grapes.
