Lots of cassis and black raspberry fruits as well as dried flowers, spicy oak, and obvious minerality emerge from the 2018 Château Dassault, a brilliantly balanced, medium to full-bodied Saint-Emilion with loads of character. Offering brilliant tannins, flawless balance, and one heck of a great finish, this magical Saint-Emilion deserves 4-5 years of bottle age and will evolve for 2 decades or more. It's easily the finest vintage I've tasted from this estate. ... More details

Blackberries, dark cherries and blueberries with some earthy notes. Spice and cigar-box, too. Full-bodied with a savory texture and firm tannins. Clove and crushed-stone undertones. Clean, flavorful finish with length. Try after 2024.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Dassault sings of stewed plums, boysenberries and Black Forest cake, followed by hints of lilacs, star anise, fragrant earth and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate has a rock-solid frame of grainy tannins and a lively backbone cutting through the densely packed, black fruit layers, finishing with a floral lift.

Rated 92 by Decanter
There is polish and a sense of direction through the palate, with clearly ripe fruit and touches of fig along with the cassis and bilberry. Fairly Cabernet-dominant and I am really finding that even a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon is making a real impact in these St-Emilion wines, it gives it heft, and overall this is a serious St-Emilion that will improve with a good few years in bottle.

The 2018 Dassault offers an inviting mix of blueberry jam, chocolate, spice, new leather and licorice. Racy and opulent to the core, the 2018 will drink well right out of the gate. This is a terrific showing.

This is a classic, well-structured wine. Firm tannins currently mask ripe black-currant fruit and acidity that will shortly offer succulent richness. The wine will age well. Drink from 2026.

Very fresh, focused style, with damson plum and red cherry coulis notes leading the way while red tea, dark earth and an iron notes develop steadily through the back half. Good latent grip. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2022 through 2034. 2,900 cases made.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act – the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

Region: Bordeaux

The wineries of Bordeaux in France are widely considered to be amongst the finest on earth, with many of the chateaux found on the Left Bank and in the Médoc region routinely demanding enormous prices and being snapped up by collectors looking to add the best examples of the world's white and red wines to their cellars. Bordeaux's secret to success comes from the fact that the terroir of the region is exceptionally rich in minerals, helped by the clay and gravel soils which typify the area and the Gironde river which runs through it. Normally humid in climate, the nearby Atlantic coast supplies cooling breezes, making Bordeaux a winemaker's dream and resulting in extremely high quality grape varietals. For hundreds of years, the wineries of Bordeaux have been mastering the art of wine blending, and today produce a wide range of wine styles using many of the sixteen grape varietals permitted to grow in the region by French law.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.

Appellation: Saint Emilion

There are few wine regions in the world quite as famous or respected as France's Bordeaux, and within Bordeaux, the one sub-region which stands head and shoulders above the rest is Saint Emilion. This very special area benefits enormously from both fine climatic conditions and superb soils – mainly clay and gravel based – alongside the nutrients and moisture supplied by the ancient Gironde river. Most wineries in Saint Emilion blend Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot varietal grapes for the production of their blended red wines, but unblended bottles are also regularly produced, to extremely high standards. The region is one steeped in history and tradition, and remains one of France's premier wine producing regions recognized worldwide for its quality and excellence.
