This is pretty austere, with tight tannins and a cassis and blueberry cool fruit feel, calm and collected with a juicy finish. A little more old school Duhart than we have got used to over the past few vintages, but one that suggests that this will do what all DBR Pauillac wines do... and age. You can see the 2001 / 2011 feel to the wine.

This structured wine has the freshest fruit, crisp with black currants. The core of dryness is important, bringing out density to balance the light touch at the back of the wine. Drink from 2023.

Features an alluring perfume, with singed alder, warmed currant preserve and smoldering bay leaf notes forming the core. Dark earth and mulled fig flavors fill in through the finish. A solid bolt of iron keeps everything moving in the same direction. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2022 through 2038. 25,000 cases made.

The 2017 Chateau Duhart-Milon is terrific, offering tons of Pauillac character in its smoked tobacco, blackcurrant, new leather, and spicy, earthy aromas and flavors. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully textured, it has the forward, elegant, classic style of the vintage and will continue drinking beautifully for 20-25 years or more. It’s a hidden gem in the vintage I’d be thrilled to have in the cellar.

Blended of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot, the 2017 Duhart-Milon is deep garnet-purple colored and comes tumbling freely out of the glass with open, expressive black plums, Black Forest cake and blueberry compote notes plus savory wafts of woodsmoke, beef drippings, black olives and cumin seed with an emerging touch of cassis. Medium-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with juicy black plum flavors and a plush texture, lifted by seamless freshness, finishing spicy. Nicely done.

The 2017 Duhart-Milon has really come together nicely with élevage. Dark and generous in the glass, the 2017 possesses terrific depth and tons of sheer appeal. Sweet tobacco, cedar, licorice, tobacco and grilled herbs add tons of Cabernet savoriness that beautifully complements the ripe dark cherry and plum fruit. The 2017 is such a gorgeous wine.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

The blended red wines of Bordeaux have gone down in history as the finest wines every produced, with collectors and many of the general public still eagerly anticipating the wineries of this region's new releases to this day. The secret to Bordeaux's monumental success has been their careful blending of high quality grape varietals, controlled and protected by French law. In Bordeaux, wineries can only produce red wines using a blend of two or more of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec or Carménere grape varietals, with the latter two becoming less and less commonly seen on bottles. The vast majority of Bordeaux red wines use Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varietals, boosted by a little Petit Verdot. These three grapes compliment each other beautifully as they age in oak, rounded out their tannins and the high astringency of the Sauvignon, and resulting in wonderfully complex flavors and aromas.
