Lifted and vibrant on the nose, lovely fresh red and black fruit nuances. Beguiling and enjoyable at the same time, giving a seductive core of strawberry, red cherry and raspberry - with high acidity - alongside liquorice-edged tannins that give the depth and density. Well worked, this retains a sense of style and signature, so easy to drink and to like, but with plenty of power, precision and focus. This wine just delivers on all fronts, balanced, harmonious, lovely high acidity giving the energy plus the texture which is just the perfect weight. You could drink this now but it will age so well. I just love this wine so much, clean, clear, crisp and stylish, it’s the undiscovered supermodel in a bottle. Yum!

The 2020 Château Latour A Pomerol showed brilliantly, with a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, yet incredibly elegant profile that's already impossible to resist. Black cherries, spicy oak, tobacco, camphor, and hints of graphite all define the aromatics, and this balanced, ethereal, complex Pomerol is going to shine for at least two decades. It's another stunning wine from the team at Moueix.

In the 2019 vintage, this estate was a highlight of the Mouiex portfolio, and the 2020 Latour à Pomerol is a terrific follow-up. Bursting with aromas of cherries, dark berries, licorice, black truffle and petroleum jelly, it's medium to full-bodied, with a broad attack that segues into a rich core of fruit that's framed by sweet, powdery tannins.

Rated 94 - The 2020 Latour a Pomerol is 100% Merlot and has a deep garnet-purple color. Notions of cedar, mulberries, and fresh black plum waft from the glass, followed by hints of iron ore, wild sage, and Ceylon tea. The full-bodied palate is laden with ripe, rich black fruit and minerally accents, supported by grainy tannins and bright freshness, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. - The Wine Independent

The 2020 Latour à Pomerol has retained a very similar bouquet to the one that I encountered from barrel with blackberry, loam and pencil box scents, perhaps one of the most Médocian noses that I have observed in this Pomerol even though paradoxically it is 100% Merlot! The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. Fine build though it remains compact and linear, finally fanning out in its final third. There is a touch of chewiness just on the finish, but I feel this is developing the substance and structure for long-term ageing.

Smolders with warm earth and paving stone aromas that seep out from the core of dark currant and blackberry preserves. Offers alder, licorice root and tobacco notes that fill in on the finish, where the fruit and earth notes meld steadily. Very solid. Best from 2026 through 2036. 1,550 cases made, 400 cases imported.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act – the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

Region: Bordeaux

The wineries of Bordeaux in France are widely considered to be amongst the finest on earth, with many of the chateaux found on the Left Bank and in the Médoc region routinely demanding enormous prices and being snapped up by collectors looking to add the best examples of the world's white and red wines to their cellars. Bordeaux's secret to success comes from the fact that the terroir of the region is exceptionally rich in minerals, helped by the clay and gravel soils which typify the area and the Gironde river which runs through it. Normally humid in climate, the nearby Atlantic coast supplies cooling breezes, making Bordeaux a winemaker's dream and resulting in extremely high quality grape varietals. For hundreds of years, the wineries of Bordeaux have been mastering the art of wine blending, and today produce a wide range of wine styles using many of the sixteen grape varietals permitted to grow in the region by French law.
