The 2021 Ruppertsberg Riesling Village is in fact the second wine of the grand crus Hoheburg and Gaisböhl and based on rather younger vines. It opens with a pure, fresh, elegant and stony bouquet of bright fruits and crushed stones. Savory and juicy on the pure and saline palate, this is a full-bodied and tight dry Riesling that is still a bit astringent, with fine bitters on the citric and saline finish. 12% stated alcohol

Varietal: Riesling

The pale skinned fruits of the Riesling grapevine have been grown in and around Germany's Rhine Valley for centuries, and contributed much to the country's wine culture. Today, Riesling grapes are grown and processed in several countries around the world, where they are prized for their ability to grow well in colder climates, and their unique flavors and characteristics. Riesling grapes produce an impressive array of wines, including fine semi sweet and dessert wines, to excellent dry white wines and sparkling varieties, all which allow the grape to shine through as a premier example of an excellent white wine varietal. One of the things which makes Riesling such a special grape is the fact that it is highly 'terroir expressive', meaning that the features of the land it is grown on can come across well in the flavors and aromas in the wine. As such, it isn't unusual to find flavors of white stone, or smoky ash-like notes in a fine Riesling alongside the more usual orchard fruit flavors more commonly associated with good white wines.

The beautiful, windswept valleys of Germany's Pfalz region has long been regarded as a flagship region for the country's wine culture, and today, hundreds of wineries have made this ancient region their home. With over twenty five thousand hectares of Pfalz under vine, it is the second largest wine producing region in the country, and yet the main focus of Pfalz wine is on quality over quantity, with careful attention paid to the flavors and aromas of the wines each winery produces. Traditional techniques remain strong, and the dozens of grape varietals which flourish in the relatively warm and dry climate of the region are used to create wines which are distinctly Germanic in style, with vintners keen to show off the finest features of their stunning terroir.
