Here’s a decadent bubbly, as rich and layered as a croissant, with a similar balance of toasty, nutty notes and buttery luxury. Michael Moosbrugger bases it on gruner veltliner, augments it with pinot noir and riesling, then ages it for six months in barrel; he ferments the wine a second time in bottle, where he leaves it for at least three years before disgorgement. The veltliner’s earthy fruit gives away the fact that this isn’t Champagne, but it acts like one. ... More details

WORLD WINE AWARDS 2018 (SILVER): Delicate aromas of white flowers, pepper, dried apricot and candied lemon peel. The palate is opulent, fresh and sensual with sweet orange and white peaches.

A hint of straw and fragrant hay appears alongside the citrus notes on the nose. The palate has fresh lively lemony fizz that accentuates the freshness and slenderness of the palate and turns this into an ideal and totally appetizing aperitif.
Wine Spectator
An elegant style, with a delicate mousse, featuring vibrant acidity behind notes of citrus and spice. Savory mineral accents emerge on the finish. Pinot Noir, Riesling and Gruner Veltliner. Drink now. 144 cases imported.
Winery
The typical style of the BRUT RESERVE originates from the cool and animating freshness of the Danube region. High altitude vineyards paired with the personality of the regional grape varieties of Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Pinot Noir form the style of this classic sparkling. Grapes are harvested at the optimal moment, transported in small boxes and are immediately pressed, whereby only the heart of the must is used. After six months of cask storage, it is bottled for the second fermentation. It matures for between 2 and 3 years on the lees, which helps to develop the wine’s creamy texture, until it is hand riddled and then disgorged.

Varietal: Champagne Blend

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

Country: Austria

All over the flat parts of the country in eastern Austria, Grüner Veltliner grapevines can be found growing to full ripeness under the blazing summer sunshine the country enjoys. For over four thousand years, Austria has been an important location for wine production, with a strong sense of tradition driving the modern wine industry to this day. Now, the country has over fifty thousand hectares under vine, and wineries are beginning to experiment more and more with imported grape varietals such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, alongside the traditional vines associated with the country. Austria is most commonly known for their excellent dry white wines, which are extremely elegant and generally capable of expressing their fine terroir, making it a fascinating country to explore from a wine drinker's perspective.
