Indaba Winery The Cape Indaba brand was founded in the early 1990’s in conjunction with the newly unified nation of South Africa, the wines representing the spirit of the historic changes that have swept the country in the last eight or so years.
The word Indaba has many meanings in the South African context, but its original translation can be derived from a coming together to discuss issues of importance. Tribal chiefs in South Africa would call their people together to discuss any issues which would effect the village or surrounding area, and an Indaba would be held to discuss these issues.
In keeping with the dramatic changes and dedication for renewal sweeping the country today, The Natural Corporation and its affiliated trading partners around the world have established the Cape Indaba Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is awarded to deserving South Africans who wish to specialise in Viticulture and Oenology, or other aspects of the wine industry. The scholarship is completely funded by a percentage of Cape Indaba sales around the world.
The first recipient of this award, Mzokhona Mvemve from KwaZulu-Natal is currently in his third year of studies at the Stellenbosch University in the winemaking program and is on track to graduate in 2000.
The quality of the wines selected further enhance the positive and credible image South African wines have attained in the world arena.
