Aromas of raspberries, exotic spices, dried flowers and candied peel preface the 2017 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru Les Quatre Journaux, a full-bodied, ample wine that's broader shouldered and more structured than even Latour's Chambertin, with a deep, layered core of juicy balancing acids, concluding with a long finish. It's a definite success.

Fine purity accents the cherry, strawberry, cinnamon and toast aromas and flavors. Concentrated and fluid, with a supple texture and intensity that builds to a lingering finish. Terrific length. Best from 2023 through 2038. 50 cases imported.

Here the pretty nose is both spicier and a bit riper as well with its notes of exotic tea, red and dark currant and a touch of violet. The supple and round middle weight flavors manage to retain good precision as well as a sophisticated texture, all wrapped in a bitter chocolate-inflected finish where again there is a trace of dryness along with a hint of warmth. I like the nose and the mid-palate but the finish is not as well-balanced as it might be, at least not yet.

Our Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Les Quatre Journaux" 2017 has a deep ruby colour. Its nose offers aromas of mocha, blackcurrant and grilled almond. Its mouth, ample and fresh, reveals notes of almond, blackcurrant and sap. Nice persistence.
