Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne

French Champagne, Reims

About Louis Roederer Champagne

Louis Roederer, a wonderful family-owned Champagne house founded in 1776, has a tremendous reputation for quality. Since 1979 it has been run by Jean-Claude Rouzard. 80% of the firm's needs are supplied by their own, magnificent, 444 acres of vineyard holdings. The Pinot Noir based non-vintage Brut Premier is powerful and richly-honeyed and is far superior to most other producers` vintage Champagnes. 1876 saw the creation of the now famous Cristal, at the request of Alexander II. This once intensely sweet wine is now one of the most luscious, deeply flavoured champagnes available, with the '88, '89 and '90 among the greatest Cristals ever released.

Louis Roederer Champagne Brut Premier

Bright aromas of green apple, orange peel, ginger, chalk and mint, along with a faint metallic quality. Rich and creamy in the middle but with a firm spine of acidity. Complicating toasty nuance. A medium to full non-vintage brut that perfect for drinking right now. Finishes ripe, persistent and toasty.

Louis Roederer Champagne Brut Vintage

Aromas of cotton candy, pear, apple, toast and earth. Fresh flavors of pear and spice, with a cyanic note of apple pit. This has weight and density; brisk acids give it clarity in the mouth. Despite showing good length, this wine's appeal is currently limited by a distinct dry edge.

Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Rose

Very pale rose-gold color. Singular nose hints at wild strawberry, raspberry and toast, along with exotic hints of mango and pineapple. Very dry and elegant, but with extraordinary intensity of flavor and incipient creaminess. An extremely young wine with the material and structure to develop for another 15 years or more. A great rose.

Louis Roederer Champagne Blanc de Blancs

Aromas of cantaloupe, toast, toffee and sour apple. Fairly deep and rich, with strong extract but somewhat disjointed acidity. The melon and toffee flavors are not yet in harmony. Finishes with a slight sour edge. A substantial wine that may be passing through an awkward stage.
