A blend of 50% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2018 High Fidelity Red Blend has a medium to deep garnet-purple color, opening with seductive notes of redcurrant jelly, blackberry coulis, black raspberries and spice cake followed by nuances of red roses, cedar chest and pencil lead with a waft of underbrush. This is a hugely concentrated and powerful blend of 50% Cabernet Franc with 25% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot. Fresh and dried tobacco leaf, tomato and black pepper season a richness of plum and cassis, inspired by Bordeaux's Right Bank. Enjoy best from 2028 through 2035. (Cellar Selection)

Lots of red and black fruits, spring flowers, candied orange, and violet notes emerge from the 2018 Red Blend High Fidelity. Another beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, elegant wine in this lineup, it offers nicely integrated acidity, present yet ripe tannins, and a great mid-palate. It’s already hard to resist, yet I see no reason why it wouldn’t continue to drink well for another 10-15 years. The blend is 50% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Petit Verdot.

The 2018 High Fidelity is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next decade or so. Bright floral aromatics lend vibrancy to a core of sweet red berry fruit. Mocha, spice, rose petal, mint and blood orange develop over time, adding layers of complexity. The move to increasingly emphasize Franc in this blend has worked so well. This is a fabulous entry-level offering from Cliff Lede.

Dark ruby colored, the 2018 High Fidelity displays a succulent assortment of complex and intriguing aromas and flavors.

Region: California

Since the 18th century, California has been a hugely important and influential wine region, acting as a trailblazer for other New World wine regions and utilizing an important blend of traditional and contemporary practices, methods and techniques relating to their wine production. Split into four key areas – the North Coast, the Central Coast, the South Coast and the Central Valley – Californian wineries make the most of their ideal climate and rich variety of terrains in order to produce a fascinating range of wines made with a long list of different fine grape varietals. Today, the state has almost half a million acres under vine, and is one of the world's largest wine exporters, with Californian wines being drunk and enjoyed all across the globe.

Country: United States

Whilst there are several strains of native grape varietals in the United States, it was the introduction of the European species which prompted the country to begin producing wines on a large scale. Over the past few centuries, experimentation and cross-breeding has produced great successes in regards to the quality and suitability of the fruit grown in states such as California, Oregon, Washington and New York, and the past few decades have seen New World wines from the United States reach much higher standards. Arguably the finest United States wines have always come out of California, where the climate and terrroir is most suitable for fine wine production. The masterful blending of classic grape varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, amongst others including Syrah and Chardonnay, have had world beating results in recent years, prompting many to suggest that there has never been a better time for buying and drinking United States wines.

Appellation: Napa Valley

When it comes to New World wines, and especially wines from the United States of America, Napa Valley is something of a standard bearer. Over its relatively short history, it has managed to transform itself from being a fairly insignificant region, to becoming one of the most important and highly regarding wine locations on earth. With an ideal climate for viticulture, blazing sunshine and a low level of rainfall, this valley is shielded on many sides by mountain ranges which help it maintain a consistent level of heat, light and moisture throughout the year. Today, Napa Valley is a home of innovation and quality, with dozens of grape varietals thriving in the fertile soils. However, the main varietals grown there have always been Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Zinfandel, and the wines they produce are constantly lauded by critics and competitions across the globe.
