Les Pucelles is often one of the more concentrated Puligny-Montrachet Premiers Crus in Olivier Leflaive's range and that's certainly the case here. Broad, leesy and richly textured with scented 20% new wood, lots of energy and vibrancy and a taut, tangy, focused finish. Very stylish indeed, with comparatively low alcohol for the vintage. Drinking Window 2021 - 2028. ... More details

Defined by its vivid structure, this white features lime blossom, peach, citronella and baking spice flavors. Balanced and mouthwatering, ends with a long, spicy aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2033. 65 cases imported.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles (Récolte du Domaine) has turned out brilliantly, continuing this cuvée's consistent record of excellence. Mingling notes of pear and crisp yellow apple with hints of citrus oil, fresh bread and toasted almonds, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a satiny attack that segues into a deep and nicely concentrated core, concluding with a long, saline finish. I suspect this will show even better with some bottle age.

Here too there is enough sulfur to render the nose difficult to read though soft floral nuance of acacia and honeysuckle do escape the funk. Otherwise there is lovely intensity to the caressing and attractively detailed medium-bodied flavors that possess a highly refined mouthfeel, all wrapped in a saline and sappy finish. This too will need to add depth with bottle age but again, given the potential it should be able to accomplish that.
Winery
Green golden in color, with spectacularly fragrant and mouth-wateringly beautiful aromas, on the palate this is rich yet elegant, with sumptuous fruit concentration, vibrant acidity, and fantastic, creamy texture.

green grapes

Varietal: Chardonnay

In the past couple of decades, the sales of wines made with Chardonnay grapes has risen and fallen more than once. For many people, this green skinned grape was marred by a poor reputation for bland and uninteresting wines, a great shame considering the fact that Chardonnay grapes have proven time and time again to be interesting, versatile and full of surprises. Most commonly, fine Chardonnay wines are buttery, smooth and creamy as a result of malolactic fermentation, yet with hints of tropical fruits and orchard fruits such as apples and pears. What is most remarkable about Chardonnay grapes, however, is the fact that unlike many other 'white' grapes, they are exceptionally good at holding the characteristics of their terroir in the bottle. As such, despite their fluctuating reputation, this is one grape varietal which produces constantly surprising, impressive and varied wines.

Region: Burgundy

The region of Burgundy has become synonymous with high quality red wines, but in actual fact the region consistently produces a wide variety of fine wines of many different styles, rigorously protected by French wine laws designed to keep reputations and quality at a very high level. The region benefits greatly from a warm and sunny summer climate, which, coupled with the excellent quality soils which typify the region, and centuries of experience and expertise, has led to the region being known all over the world for the excellence of its produce. The majority of grapevines grown here are of the Pinot Noir varietal, which has helped Burgundy become known as the definitive region for elegant and smooth red wines, but Chardonnay grapes and many others are also grown in abundance and used to make both still and sparkling wines.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.

Appellation: Cote De Beaune

The stunning and historic appellations of Cote De Beaune in France date back centuries, and are a vitally important center for the fine French wine industry. Located in the southern half of the Cote d'Or, Cote De Beaune is widely renowned for producing what are said to be some of the finest white wines in the world. Indeed, the Chardonnay grapes which flourish in the beautiful climatic conditions of Cote De Beaune ripen fully after the hot summers, and contain an impressive array of flavors and aromas, as well as many of the best features of the superb terroir they grow on. Pinot Noir is the region's other key grape varietal, and the red wines of Cote De Beaune are also considered to be of a very high quality indeed.
