The 2017 Mamertino is a blend of Nero d’Avola and the rare Nocera grape, hailing from coastal vineyards in the extreme northeast of Sicily. It features a gorgeous display of crushed blueberries and sweet spice, complicated by hints of tobacco and white smoke. This is soft and silky, yet conveys an almost salty tension, as the Mamertino then gives way to a pure expression of red and blue fruits, all motivated by juicy acidity, which slowly fizzles out to a lasting note of sweet violet florals and cheek-puckering tannins. It’s a unique and gorgeous expression of variety and place. ... More details

Very inviting from the outset with notes of dried blueberries, raspberry cheesecake and dried nutmeg. Medium-bodied, soft and elegant. Quite tense but juicy tannins. Drink now.

Made with 60% Nero d'Avola and 40% Nocera, this has aromas of dark-skinned berry, baking spice and Mediterranean herb. Reflecting the nose, the medium-bodied palate has concentrated flavors of dried Morello cherry, blackberry jam and cinnamon set against taut, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2021–2025.

The 2017 Mamertino is a unique wine that represents a DOC wine appellation in Milazzo (in the northern tip of Sicily)… The traditional blend is Nero d’Avola and Nocera, and the wine is easy in approach and execution… Fresh cherry and blackberry followed by earthy tones and some subtle mineral or sea breeze nuances
Winery
Brilliant, intense ruby colour with dark violet reflexes. Explosive nose with notes of mediterranian maquis, blue fruits and jammy berries. On the palate thick but refined tannins are well integrated with the oak. Pair with home-made appetizers, ragout-based first courses, artichokes prepared in all ways, lamb, and pot baked grouper.

Region: Sicily

The island of Sicily is one of those wine regions which seems to be designed for the production of quality wines. Not only does it have extremely fertile soils, helped by volcanic activity of such peaks as Etna, but the climate is absolutely ideal for the ripening of beautiful grape varietals, with almost year-round sunshine and cooling sea breezes. Sicily has been using such factors for growing grapevines for thousands of years, and is a truly ancient wine region steeped in tradition. Wineries on the island make a wide variety of wines, which are much loved for their ability to express plenty of exciting fruit flavors and sunny, tempting aromas, but Sicily is most well known for the dessert and fortified wines based around the port town of Marsala.

Country: Italy

For several decades in the mid to late twentieth century, Italy's reputation for quality wines took a fairly serious blow. This was brought about partly due to lack of regulation in certain regions, and too much regulation in others. This led to several wineries in the beautiful and highly fertile region of Tuscany making the bold move to work outside of the law, which they saw as responsible for the drop in quality in Tuscan wines. They believed that they had the expertise and the generations of experience necessary with which to make truly excellent, world class wines, and set about doing just that. These 'Super Tuscans', as they came to be known, quickly inspired the rest of Italy to improve their produce, and now, Italian wine producers in the twenty-first century are widely recognised to be amongst the best in the world. Regulation and law began to change, and wine drinkers across the globe woke up to the outstanding wines coming out of Italy, which are continuing to improve and impress to this day.
