The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Caks 23 is quite simply one of the wines of the vintage. Crème de cassis, inky blue/purplish fruit, menthol, licorice and dark spices are some of myriad aromas and flavors that open up as the Cask 23 makes its presence noted. Huge and massively tannic, the 2013 Cask captures all the personality of this great vintage, along with darker shades of expression that recall the S.L. V. If anything, the Cask tastes like S.L.V. on steroids. What a wine!

This head-turner of a wine is saturatedly dark black-red, with irresistible scents of blue forest fruits, a pencilly freshness and a little bitter-orange charm. Intense, fresh, bright and tightly gathered, despite the intrinsic sweetness of the fruits. Perfumes float to the very end of the palate, which finishes clean and fresh: a wine of ‘invisible’ dimensions whose generosity is carried by its intrinsic grandeur.

Sleek and fresh, this is just starting to unwind, with generous black currant and blackberry reduction notes aligned to iron, singed alder and savory details. Shows a subtle current of acidity running underneath it all, while one last tug of warm earth chimes in on the fine-grained finish. Blind 2013 California Cabernet retrospective (February 2023). Drink now through 2036. 3,900 cases made.

Complex fruit aromas along with notes of brown sugar, black tea and violet. On the palate, the 2013 Cask 23 has a rich mouthfeel with flavors complementing the aromas.
