This wine's subtle nose reveals hints of lemon, hay and chalk. These carry over onto the palate where they entwine in concentrated harmony. There is focus on generosity, marked out by the pithy, chalky midpalate texture and lemony brightness, despite the hot conditions of this vintage. It's a stony, elegant wine with lovely depth. ... There is a top note of matchstick character to the moderately exotic nose that includes whiffs of white peach and orange peel. The mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is also quite supple and round though there is ample punch and minerality to the well-detailed, bone dry and youthfully austere finale. This is potentially excellent, and I especially like the fine complexity.

Offering up aromas of crisp green apple, pear, spring blossom and wet stones, the 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu is medium to full-bodied, delicately textural and incisive, with lively acids and a chalky finish. It has turned out well.

Rated 90 by Vinous Media
The 2018 Chablis Mont de Mlieu has a clean, fresh, slightly chalky nose that shows more precision and terroir expression than the Montée de Tonnerre. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, taut and fresh, though just missing a little complexity and mineralité on the finish.
Wine Spectator
Floral and apple aromas and flavors mark this delicate, fruity white. It's lively, with a lingering finish of lemon and chamomile. Drink now. 1,250 cases made, 90 cases imported.
Winery
Bright and clear with delicate green reflections. This highly aromatic 1er Cru offers ripe citrus fruits and white flowers. The palate is well-rounded with remarkably persistent aromas.

Varietal: Chardonnay

Of all the white wine grape varietals, surely the one which has spread the furthest and is most widely appreciated is the Chardonnay. This green skinned grape is now grown all over the Old and New Worlds, from New Zealand to the Americas, from England to Chile, and is one of the first varietals people think of when considering white wine grapes. Perhaps this is because of its huge popularity which reached a peak in the 1990s, thanks to new technologies combining with traditional methods to bring the very best features out of the Chardonnay grape, and allow its unique qualities to shine through. Most fine Chardonnay wines use a process known as malolactic fermentation, wherein the malic acids in the grape juice are converted to lactic acids, allowing a creamier, buttery nature to come forward in the wine. No grape varietal is better suited to this process than Chardonnay, which manages to balance these silky, creamy notes with fresh white fruit flavors beautifully.

Region: Burgundy

In the beautiful French wine region of Burgundy, there is archaeological evidence to suggest that there has been viticultural activity going on for at least two thousand years. To add to this, there are early written records praising the exceptional wines produced in this region dating back to the 6th century, making Burgundy one of the oldest established and still operational wine regions in the world. The region is most commonly associated with fine red wines, with Pinot Noir being the primary grape varietal grown on its rolling hillsides and gently sloping valleys. However, Chardonnay grapes are also produced in abundance for the production of their fine white wines, with both varietals benefiting greatly from the region's warm, hot summers and the superb soils which make up the terroir.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
