This is a clean, somewhat naked and straightforward interpretation of Cannubi, a vineyard site that always puts elegance and finesse first. The Marchesi di Barolo 2015 Barolo Cannubi offers silky richness in this warm vintage with plenty of wild fruit followed by dusty mineral and fragrant menthol notes. This wine is compact, pretty and bright. Some 26,000 bottles were made.

This supple red shows roundness and harmony, featuring cherry, eucalyptus, licorice and tar notes, set against a backdrop of vibrant acidity and solid tannins that embraces the flavors on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2040. 450 cases imported.

Aromas of espresso, dried herbs and baked plum with a whiff of coconut merge together in the glass. The linear palate is youthfully austere, offering cranberry, sour cherry, star anise and roasted coffee bean alongside fresh acidity. Close-grained tannins leave a rather drying finish. Give this a few more years to unwind, then drink sooner rather than later.

Garnet-red in color with ruby reflections. Intense perfume with clean scent of roses, vanilla, licorice, spices and toasted oak. Gentle notes of absinthe. The flavor is full and elegant, good- bodied and austere with recurring olfactory sensations. The spicy note and the hints of wood blend perfectly. The Barolo Cannubi reaches its maturity after 6 years from the harvest and can be enjoyed throughout its life between 6 and 25 years. With its great structure, this wine is particularly adapted to red meats, braised dishes and game in general. It is an ideal accompaniment for cheeses and our typical local cuisine.

Varietal: Nebbiolo

The dusty purple grapes of the Nebbiolo variety are widely considered to be amongst the finest in the world, and hold many unique characteristics which have secured their place in wine making history. Indeed, almost all of the most respected and sought after red wines of Italy are made using this grape varietal, and it wasn't long before several New World wineries started experimenting with the fruit of this special vine, too. Nebbiolo grapes are renowned for their ability to age beautifully, with their strong and dense tannins mellowing out and becoming more balanced inside the oak. Alongside this, they hold some of the most complex and exciting flavors to be found in any grape, which range from gorgeous notes of black truffle, to aromatic violets and tobacco tones.

This led to several wineries in the beautiful and highly fertile region of Tuscany making the bold move to work outside of the law, which they saw as responsible for the drop in quality in Tuscan wines. They believed that they had the expertise and the generations of experience necessary with which to make truly excellent, world class wines, and set about doing just that. These 'Super Tuscans', as they came to be known, quickly inspired the rest of Italy to improve their produce, and now, Italian wine producers in the twenty-first century are widely recognised to be amongst the best in the world. Regulation and law began to change, and wine drinkers across the globe woke up to the outstanding wines coming out of Italy, which are continuing to improve and impress to this day.
