I loved the 2019 Château Fontenil, a ripe, sexy wine that stays balanced, pure and elegant. Giving up a dense ruby/purple color, rocking cassis fruit, lots of tobacco and spice aromatics, and sweet tannins, it's going to drink nicely right out of the gate yet also keep for 15 years or more. ... The 2019 Fontenil has closed down quite a bit post bottling. That's probably a good thing for its long-term prospects, though. Dark raspberry, blood orange, spice, new leather and menthol open with a bit of time in the glass. Perfumed floral accents brighten up the finish. There is a lot to look forward to, but a bit of patience is a must.

Plenty of sweet-tobacco, graphite, and dark-berry aromas follow through to a medium to full body with attractive ripe fruit and chewy yet round tannins. It’s a little one-dimensional on the palate now, but will develop complexity and drinkability in a short time. Try after 2023.

Intense and concentrated on the nose, softly scented with black fruit aromas. Ripe, plump and juicy on the palate - this has a lovely balance between chewy fruit, ripe tannins and bright acidity, giving a rounded mouthfeel and plenty of flavour. Lovely texture overall, smooth and silky with the focus on the freshness which is abundant. Purity and precision here, an enjoyable glass of wine. Home estate of oenologists and consultants, Dany and Michel Rolland. Drinking Window 2024 - 2036.
Wine Spectator
Red and black currant fruit flavors are allied to a taut, cedar-tinged structure, while tobacco and warm earth accents create a nice backdrop. Drink now through 2029. 3,174 cases made, 50 cases imported.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

Bordeaux red wines are widely regarded as being the finest red wines produced anywhere in the world, regularly topping awards lists and generally being amongst the most sought after and collectable bottles available. The secret to their success and their particularly memorable and refined characteristics is the fact that Bordeaux red wines are made from a blend of grape varietals, most commonly from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, helped by a touch of Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc. The other two key Bordeaux grape varietals which are also used in the blend of many of these excellent wines are Malbec and Carménere, although it is becoming less common to see these in use today. The art of blending primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varietals is something which has been much imitated around the world, as it produces a wonderfully balanced, rounded yet massively complex and flavorful wine, ideal for oak aging The acid and tannin levels in each of these grape varietals is balanced and tempered by the blend, and generations of expertise has gone into the careful selection and cultivation of such quality grapes.

Region: Bordeaux

Although most commonly associated with their superb blended red wines, the world-famous region of Bordeaux in France is responsible for a relatively wide array of wines, ranging from the sweet and viscous white wines of Sauternes, to the dry and acidic single variety white wines found all over the region. However, it is the red wines which regularly make the wine world's headlines, and have historically been regarded as the finest on earth. The secret to the region's success is the fact that the warm and humid climate, coupled with mineral rich clay and gravel based soils produces grapes of excellent quality. Wineries in this region have spent hundreds of years mastering the art of blending and oak aging in order to get the best results from each grape, and remain the envy of the world to this day.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
