The 2017 Giusto di Notri is a special 25th anniversary bottling that is chiseled, sharp and focused. The small part of Merlot gives it some added sweetness (the percentage of Merlot was slightly reduced in this vintage), the touch of Cabernet Franc contributes the power, freshness and dark fruit, and along with a starring role of Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has lots of beautiful plushness restrained by a tight, disciplined linearity. This vintage saw less time in barrique (about 16 months) but the barrels had more toasting. There is a lasting mineral note of chalk or limestone that frames the dark and opulence quality of fruit at its core. The bouquet is stunning. The wine treads lightly in the palate, with a very elegant and nuanced approach. It really is another gorgeous wine from Tua Rita that shows the profound skill of this winemaking team even when faced with a hot vintage such as this. ... More details

An attractive mix of blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite, and violet emerge from the 2017 Giusto di Notri (80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% each Cabernet Franc and Merlot). It is full and long, with ripe fruit and tannins that flood through the mid-palate, followed by warming oak spices that perfume the finish. This plush and sunny wine is drinking beautifully now and will drink well over the next 10-15 years.

A wine of substance and depth, the 2017 Giusto di Notri is terrific. In 2017, the Giusto has a bit less opulence than normal (typical of wines of the coast in this vintage) and yet that also gives it more immediacy. A rush of sweet red/purplish berry fruit, cinnamon and spice builds as the 2017 shows off its racy curves.

This is a preview as the wine is not yet bottled. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon was used this year, with a resultant reduction in Merlot. The wine spent 16 months in barriques, 70% new. It has a tighter, leaner structure than the 2016 with a slight green, herbal edge. I like the dark liquorice flavours here - reminiscent of a traditional St-Estèphe - and the firm, more austere, honest style. I love that the wine reflects the vintage in a very transparent way.

This red is meaty in style, delivering black cherry, black currant and earth flavors, with a hint of wild herbs. Dense tannins line the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2025. 2,100 cases made, 200 cases imported.

The beautiful region of Tuscany has been associated with wine production for almost three thousand years, and as such is one of the oldest and most highly respected wine producing regions in the world. The hot, sunny climate supports quite a wide range of grapes, but the grape varietals most widely grown across this large region are Sangiovese and Vernaccia, both of which are used in the production of Tuscany's most distinctive red and white wines. Cabernet Sauvignon and other imported grape varietals have also flourished there for over two hundred years, but it wasn't until the 1970's and the rise of the 'Super Tuscans' that they were widely used, when the fine wineries of the region began experimenting with Bordeaux style red wines to great effect.
