92-94 Bright red. Sexy, high-toned aromas of strawberry, raspberry, crushed-stone minerality, rose petal and truffle, complicated by an exotic suggestion of white fruits (Claude de Nicolay compared it to a riesling!). Wonderfully perfumed and stylish, with bright acidity giving definition and lift to the strawberry and rose petal flavors, with the exotic quality carrying through in the mouth. More youthfully imploded than the Bressandes, but the tannins arrive late, allowing the wine's perfume to fill the mouth and linger. ... More details

Enticing aromas of sandalwood, cedar, green olive and spice mark this red. Wild cherry and berry flavors add to the mix as this cruises to a long, spice-filled aftertaste. There's a light grain to the tannins, but this should develop beautifully. Best from 2019 through 2032. 70 cases made.

88-90 The 2013 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru comes from a parcel at the top of the vineyard. It has a somewhat airy, cold stone bouquet that is perhaps less expressive than the Corton-Bressandes at this early juncture. The palate is medium-bodied, the tannins a little chewier than the aforementioned Bressandes, with a linear, marine-influenced, very minerally finish that feels a little abrupt. Give this a couple of years in bottle and hopefully it will achieve the same class as the Corton-Bressandes.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is one of the planet's most widely grown and enjoyed grape varietals, and thanks to the popularity of the key wines it is associated with – Burgundy and Champagne – it has successfully spread from its native home in France to much of the wine producing world. Pinot Noir means 'black pine' in French, and this refers to the extremely dark, inky color of the fruit, and the fact that it grows in conical bunches, resembling a large pine cone. It has long been revered for its wide range of refreshing, summery flavors, and the fact that it produces red wines of a beautiful garnet color and light body. More recently, sparkling wines made exclusively with Pinot Noir have been extremely popular, and the orchard notes found in the fizzy 'blanc des noirs' wines mark out just how versatile this grape varietal really is. Despite being notoriously difficult to grow, it isn't hard to see why this grape is now found in vineyards all over the world, as it is synonymous with romance and decadence, quality and fantastic flavor

Region: Burgundy

In the beautiful French wine region of Burgundy, there is archaeological evidence to suggest that there has been viticultural activity going on for at least two thousand years. To add to this, there are early written records praising the exceptional wines produced in this region dating back to the 6th century, making Burgundy one of the oldest established and still operational wine regions in the world. The region is most commonly associated with fine red wines, with Pinot Noir being the primary grape varietal grown on its rolling hillsides and gently sloping valleys. However, Chardonnay grapes are also produced in abundance for the production of their fine white wines, with both varietals benefiting greatly from the region's warm, hot summers and the superb soils which make up the terroir.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.

Appellation: Cote De Beaune

France's beautiful and highly esteemed sub-region of Cote De Beaune is rightly regarded as the home to many of the world's finest, most complex and fascinating white wines. The white wine industry of Cote De Beaune is based almost solely around the Chardonnay grape, which flourishes especially well in the fine climatic conditions the region receives, and ripens well due to the mineral rich soils which typify the area. Chardonnay is renowned for its ability to express the best points of its terroir, and local winemakers claim that a mixture of traditional techniques and the stunning soils they work with is the secret to their success. There is also a huge red wine industry in Cote De Beaune, which, although not quite as famous as the white wines that leave the region, produces remarkable results from the excellent Pinot Noir grapes which grow there.
