A restrained but highly complex nose is comprised by ample yeast character on the aromas of brioche, baked apple and soft citrus scents. There is a really lovely mouth feel to the rich flavors that display an abundant mousse, indeed this is almost foamy, yet it is quite fine while delivering excellent length on the moderately dry finish that delivers the same outstanding complexity as the nose. This is a really interesting effort as it's at once full-bodied yet refined and it's evident that ample reserve stocks were used in this cuvée. Moreover, it's extremely difficult to find this level of quality for the price and overall, this is highly recommended.

Based on the 2017 vintage, complemented by reserve wines from 2016 and 2015, Doyard's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuvée Vendémiaire (2017 base) delivers inviting aromas of citrus oil, crisp stone fruit, almond paste and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy palate with tangy acids and a charming, giving profile, concluding with a bright, saline finish. No matter the base vintage, this bottling attains incredible consistency in terms of quality.

The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuvee Vendemiaire 1er Cru is soft, open-knit and wonderfully inviting. Citrus, white flowers, almonds and gently spiced notes are nicely woven together in this pretty, understated Champagne from Doyard. A touch of oak adds nuance without overpowering the wine's energy and precision. The current release is 50% 2013, 30% 2012 and 20% 2011, mostly from old vines in Vertus, with touches of fruit from a number of Grand Cru villages. This is a terrific showing.

The first of the wines from Doyard, the NV Champagne 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs Vendemiaire Brut is assertive with aromas of tangerine, tarragon, sour apple, and fresh bread dough. The palate is clean and has decent concentration for an entry wine, with lime zest, pear, and a chalky texture. It is dry and has a savory touch that can carry as an aperitif or at the table. Drink over the next 8-10 years.
Winery
An incisive, vinous Champagne that shows gorgeous notes of citrus peel, almond, oyster shells, and blood orange. Texturally elegant, this wine is downright electric with its chiseled and deeply concentrated mid-palate. The finish displays a magical tension between the wine’s intensity and its saline-infused core. A triumph.

Varietal: Champagne Blend

The careful blending of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietal grapes has long been the secret to the success of the famous sparkling wines of the Champagne region. The wines of this region have gone down in history as the finest example of France's sparkling produce, and the methods of processing the grapes in this region have been imitated in almost every wine producing country in the world. There are actually seven different grape varietals allowed to be included in a Champagne sparkling wine, although grape varietals such as Pinot Blanc, Arbanne and Pinot Gris are used less and less commonly in its production. Whilst the Chardonnay varietal grapes offer their distinctive biscuit flavor and wonderful astringency, it is the Pinot Noir grapes (most commonly used for producing beautifully light red wines) which give the Champagne wines their length and backbone.

Region: Champagne

The region of Champagne in the north-easterly part of France has, for hundreds of years, been known for the production of high quality, elegant and characterful sparkling white wines. Champagne wines continue to dominate the market for sparkling wines, and are the envy of many countries, with plenty of producers attempting to emulate their unique practices. The chalky, mineral-rich soils of this high altitude region are ideal for growing the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Petit Meunier varietal grapevines which cover the region and are usually blended together in the production of Champagne wine. The climate of Champagne is far cooler than other famous wine regions in France, but the wineries which are found all over the area have generations of expertise, and have no problems in producing vast quantities of their famous produce for the world market.

Country: France

Year in, year out, France enjoys its prestigious reputation as the producer of the finest wines in the world. With a wine making history which spans several thousand years and owes its expertise to the Romans, it comes as little surprise that this most highly esteemed of the Old World wine countries continues to impress and enchant both novices and experts to this day. Despite the rise in quality of wines from neighboring European countries, not to mention the New World, the French wine industry continues to boom, with up to eight billion bottles being produced in recent years. However, France prides itself on always putting quality before quantity, and the wide range in fine produce is a testament to the dedication and knowledge of the wineries across the country. Indeed, from rich and complex reds to light and aromatic white wines, French wines are as varied and interesting as they are enjoyable to drink, making this country a firm favorite for wine lovers across the globe.
