91-93 A blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 La Cabanne has a deep purple-black color and notes of ripe, juicy black plums, fresh blackberries and black cherry compote, plus hints of star anise, clove oil and sandalwood with a touch of lavender. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of rich, ripe black fruits, supported by velvety tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long with a spicy kick.

The 2020 La Cabanne is soft, fruity and very easy to like. A burst of dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, rose petal and mint gives La Cabanne its charming, sensual personality. Soft, silky tannins wrap it all together. This pliant, succulent Saint-Émilion is all charm.

91-93 Barrel Sample. This wine, almost pure Merlot, has the opulence to be expected from the grape. The fruit is so dense that the tannins are buried but are certainly there and will allow this juicy, black fruit flavored wine to age gracefully.

A blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Château La Cabanne reveals a dense purple hue to go with intense aromatics of black cherries, ripe strawberries, new saddled leather, camphor, and sweet flowers. This pretty, medium-bodied, elegant Pomerol has light tannins, a seamless, layered mouthfeel, and outstanding length. It's certainly not the biggest or richest Pomerol in the vintage, but it shines for its elegant, finesse-driven style and is impeccably balanced.

Rated 90 by Decanter
A little austere, clear richness to the black cherry fruit and grilled cedar edge but things lose momentum through the mid palate. You will find more powerful Pomerols; but they have clearly worked to not push extraction, and this is easy to enjoy, with a slow build to the tannins that is attractive. A yield of 37hl/ha. No added sulphur during vinification.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

The Bordeaux region of France consistently enjoys the reputation of being the finest region for wine making in the world. But what is it that makes this area around the Gironde river so special? The secret lies in their ancient and careful blend of no more than six high quality, flavorful and unique grape varietals. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Carménere are all permitted for usage in the production of Bordeaux wines, and the winery carefully considers how to balance the fine points of one varietal against another. Most commonly, Cabernet Sauvignon is used as the main grape varietal, usually with vintners making wines containing upwards of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon grape juices. This varietal lends its big, spicy, fruity flavors and astringent, tannin-heavy character to the mix. Normally, this strong varietal is then tempered and rounded by Merlot, a fleshy, fruity and far lighter bodied grape, containing far fewer tannins and a much brighter flavor The blended wines are normally left to age in oak, where they can continue to work together and produce their wonderful results.

Country: France

French winemakers are subjected to several laws and regulations regarding the wines they produce, and how they can be labeled and sold. Such procedures are designed to increase the overall quality of the country's produce, and also to ensure that wines made in each particular region or appellation are of a character and type which is representative of the area. Thankfully for consumers of wine world-wide, the French have a particularly high reputation to uphold, and seem to do so flawlessly. Every year, wineries from all over France produce millions upon millions of bottles of fine wine, making the most of their native grape varieties and the excellent terrain which covers most of the country. From the expensive and exquisite red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, to the white wines and cremants of central France, the French are dedicated to providing the world with wines of the highest quality and most distinctive character.
