The Raveneau holdings of Montmains are a 0.6ha parcel that faces east and south east. Pale, backward and quite closed, as the domaine's wines often are in their youth, this is fresh, focused and understated, with notes of beeswax and citrus peel, a nip of skin tannins and the abreast whisper of oak. Give it time. ... More details

92-94 A wine of textural depth and resonance, the 2018 Chablis Monts-Mains 1er Cru shows terrific power and richness in its broad, sweeping feel. Even with all of its density and overtness, the 2018 retains terrific freshness to balance things out.

92-93 Attractive, ripe green mangoes, white peaches and fresh lemons in an expressive nose. A very, very plush, fresh and succulent feel here. This has terrific roundness and a long pull to close. Good volume and density here. Drink on release.

Rated 92 by Wine Advocate
Wafting from the glass with aromas of green apple, iodine, fresh bread and oyster shell, the 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains is medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny, with bright acids and a chalky finish. This has turned out beautifully.

Rated 92 by Burghound
This is more elegant and restrained with cool aromas of citrus confit, shellfish and an abundance of floral wisps. There is fine richness to the seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that are not as dense or powerful though they are more refined on the discreetly stony and super-saline finish that is slightly more persistent. Lovely stuff that should also reward up to a decade of keeping.

green grapes

Varietal: Chardonnay

Of all the white wine grape varietals, surely the one which has spread the furthest and is most widely appreciated is the Chardonnay. This green skinned grape is now grown all over the Old and New Worlds, from New Zealand to the Americas, from England to Chile, and is one of the first varietals people think of when considering white wine grapes. Perhaps this is because of its huge popularity which reached a peak in the 1990s, thanks to new technologies combining with traditional methods to bring the very best features out of the Chardonnay grape, and allow its unique qualities to shine through. Most fine Chardonnay wines use a process known as malolactic fermentation, wherein the malic acids in the grape juice are converted to lactic acids, allowing a creamier, buttery nature to come forward in the wine. No grape varietal is better suited to this process than Chardonnay, which manages to balance these silky, creamy notes with fresh white fruit flavors beautifully.

Region: Burgundy

The wines which come out of the Burgundy region of France are regularly hailed as amongst the finest in the world, with the area now being synonymous with quality red wines of exceptional flavor, character and aroma. However, Burgundy is no newcomer to the world of fine wines, with the earliest recordings of the quality of this region's produce dating back to the 6th century, and archaeological evidence suggesting that vineyards had been cultivated there for over two thousand years. Today, there are dozens of controlled appellations within Burgundy, each producing exceptional wines typical of the region. The whole area benefits greatly from hot summers and mild, long autumnal periods, which, when coupled with the generations of expertise of the wineries in Burgundy, consistently produces superb wines for the world's enjoyment.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.
