I loved the 2015 Minervois les Fontanilles and it’s one of the bigger, richer wines in the lineup. Made from equal parts Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan, aged in equal parts stainless steel and barrel, it offers outstanding notes of black raspberries, cassis and a liquid rock like minerality. Like all the wines here, it has an inherent elegance and freshness (probably due to this higher elevation, unique terroir), and I suspect will evolve nicely for 4-6 years. ... More details

Decanter
From a complex terroir of small plots of vines aged between 28 and 55 years, with northwest exposure and surrounded by mixed scrubland of pine trees, wild thyme and rosemary; a typically Minervois blend of equal proportions of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Cinsault, aged 50% in barrel for 12 months. The Syrah stands out clearly here, with marked spice and black pepper, and baked black fruits on the nose. Generous on the palate, it's open and jolly, showing plenty of blackcurrant and plum with soft tannins throughout, though the acidic structure will keep it maturing and evolving nicely for some years yet. Region: Languedoc Roussillon

The French region of Languedoc Roussillon can claim to be amongst one of the oldest continuing wine regions in the world, with a history which stretches back to the ancient Greeks almost three thousand years ago. Today, Languedoc Roussillon is recognized as a region associated with fine wines made from many of the noble grapes, and with over 700,000 acres under vine, is a veritable powerhouse of viticulture which has helped shape the world of wines as we know it. Languedoc Roussillon is situated in the very south of France, and enjoys a fine, hot, Mediterranean climate which allows the vines there to reach full ripeness and provide reliable yields each year. Languedoc Roussillon today produces over a third of France's wines, and the bottles which leave the wineries of the region remain popular across the globe.

With a wine making history which spans several thousand years and owes its expertise to the Romans, it comes as little surprise that this most highly esteemed of the Old World wine countries continues to impress and enchant both novices and experts to this day. Despite the rise in quality of wines from neighboring European countries, not to mention the New World, the French wine industry continues to boom, with up to eight billion bottles being produced in recent years. However, France prides itself on always putting quality before quantity, and the wide range in fine produce is a testament to the dedication and knowledge of the wineries across the country. Indeed, from rich and complex reds to light and aromatic white wines, French wines are as varied and interesting as they are enjoyable to drink, making this country a firm favorite for wine lovers across the globe.
