The faintest hints of smoke, apricot and honey hit the nose, while the palate of this wine shows balmy apricot notes but is otherwise still closed. A quiet harmony of fruit and freshness, body and weight already tells us that this needs time to show its true colors. The wine is is promising and elegant, tart and gentle, fresh and soothing. Right now it glides arrow-like across the palate. Give this time: drink 2028–2030. (Cellar Selection) ... More details

Made from biodynamically grown grapes. This is a very clean 2014. There's a positive earthiness on the nose, and the wine has a good amount of power and a very fresh apple-lemon finish. This should be an extremely flexible food wine.

Bright straw-green. Aromas of peach and five-spice powder, plus a twist of lemon. Dense and fresh; harmonious acids give the clean orchard fruit flavors an almost austere quality. Deep in the middle and well-balanced, this finishes quite long and floral, delivering lively lemony bite. Completely different from the Heissenberg Riesling – in fact, these two wines provide a real study in terroir: same variety, same viticulture and winemaking, situated relatively close to each other, yet the wines couldn’t be any more different.

Delicate floral and spice notes are an aromatic entry to this subtle, finely knit white, accenting flavors of melon, stone, grated ginger and candied pink grapefruit zest. Fresh and elegant. Drink now through 2020. 65 cases imported.

green grapes

Varietal: Riesling

Riesling grapes have been grown in and around central Europe for centuries, and over time, they became the lasting symbol of south Germany's ancient and proud wine culture. Whilst the reputation of German wines abroad has in the past been mixed, the Germans themselves take an enormous amount of pride in their wineries, and Riesling grapes have now spread around the globe, growing anywhere with the correct climate in which they can thrive. Riesling grape varietals generally require much cooler climatic conditions than many other white grapes, and they are generally considered to be a very 'terroir expressive' varietal, meaning that the features and characteristics of the terroir they are grown on comes across in the flavors and aromas in the bottle. It is this important feature which has allowed Riesling wines to be elevated into the category of 'fine' white wines, as the features of the top quality bottles are generally considered to be highly unique and offer much to interest wine enthusiasts.

Region: Alsace

For lovers of fine white and rosé wines, there are few regions in the world quite as good as France's Alsace. The region itself is a particularly fascinating one, as it has long been fought over by France and Germany, resulting in a culture and wine industry which is something of a blend of the two countries. Wines in Alsace are almost all white, although there are more wineries now producing the pale red or pinkish Pinot Noir wines which the region is also renowned for. Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Muscat are also grown in huge quantities across the Alsace, and most of the region's wines are made from these varietals. Overall, Alsace is a highly productive region of France, with over a hundred million liters of wine being produced annually from the nine permitted grape varietals the region grows.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.
