Like a burst of fresh sea air, the 2021 Soave Classico Carbonare opens with a salty blend of crushed rocks, lime zest and crushed green apples. This soothes with its round textures and fresh acidity, as a cascade of crunchy orchard fruits and mineral tones travels across the palate. Saline and full of tension, the Carbonare leaves a pleasant inner sweetness and a minty herbal thrust that lingers on. There is such purity and balance here. The 2021 was made entirely in stainless steel. ... More details

All tank fermented. A straight-shooting, mid-weighted force of mineral, quince paste, almond husk and Meyer lemon. Reductive in the best sense, with a jitter of bright acidity and the sort of latent power suggesting that this will age very well indeed. Drink or hold.
Winery
The wine is richly flavoured, with an important acidic backbone to provide balance and support its aromatic character. Citrus flavours are complemented by savoury notes to add complexity, with a fresh finish.

Region: Veneto

As historically one of the most important regions in the world regarding trade and experimentation, it comes as no surprise to discover that Veneto has always been a well respected and innovative wine region. This area of north-easterly area of Italy benefits greatly from a continental climate tempered by the Alps, and plenty of influence from the Germanic countries it is near to. Veneto is most commonly associated with beautifully elegant white wines, such as those of Soave, and has over ninety thousand hectares under vine. Impressively, within that area, over a third of the vineyards in the Veneto region have been granted official AOC status, and many of the sub-regions and appellations of Veneto have gone on to be world-famous in regards to quality. One such example is Valpolicella, where some of Italy's finest and most complex red wines are produced.

Country: Italy

For several decades in the mid to late twentieth century, Italy's reputation for quality wines took a fairly serious blow. This was brought about partly due to lack of regulation in certain regions, and too much regulation in others. This led to several wineries in the beautiful and highly fertile region of Tuscany making the bold move to work outside of the law, which they saw as responsible for the drop in quality in Tuscan wines. They believed that they had the expertise and the generations of experience necessary with which to make truly excellent, world class wines, and set about doing just that. These 'Super Tuscans', as they came to be known, quickly inspired the rest of Italy to improve their produce, and now, Italian wine producers in the twenty-first century are widely recognised to be amongst the best in the world. Regulation and law began to change, and wine drinkers across the globe woke up to the outstanding wines coming out of Italy, which are continuing to improve and impress to this day.
