A different, fuller-weighted brood, boasting ample stone fruits, nutmeg and truffle. Savvy use of oak (tonneaux and larger format French) and extended lees ageing. A vineyard purchased in 1976, situated directly behind the town's castle. Lower altitude, with clay and limestone (rather than the more pervasive volcanics), finding effortless confluence with a winemaking approach that has long-defined this fuller-weighted, late-harvested, highly textural expression. While an outlier stylistically, there is often a fleck of botrytis, all tamarind and dried mango, that melds with the underlying tension to impart generosity and evince authority. ... More details

This wine is so complex and intriguing you have to just sit with it. Aromas of roasted apples drizzled with honey, dried flowers and candied orange zest are just the tip of the wine. It continues to evolve until you run out and want more. The palate has an amazing texture with weight yet acidity to balance out the richness of the ripe orchard fruits, baking spices and orange blossom flavors. Enjoy it now or be rewarded with more time in the cellar.

A statuesque white, with up-front generosity to the flavors of poached quince, baked pineapple and grilled macadamia nut, which are nicely reined in by well-integrated acidity and a sense of verticality. Fragrant, with notes of honeysuckle and lime blossoms enriched by hints of spun honey and saffron, this is long and lovely. Drink now through 2034.
Winery
Color: Brilliant amedium lemon. Perfume: Characterful wine, reminiscent of exotic fruit and nuts on the nose. Palate: Smooth and persistent on the palate, with hints of spice, length and elegance.

Region: Veneto

Veneto has, for hundreds of years, been one of Italy's most important wine regions, and many of the finest wineries and appellations near the Adriatic coast have reached levels of international fame and recognition unmatched by other parts of the country. Amarone, Valpolicella and Bardolino DOC regions are all widely understood to be amongst the best places in the world for flavorful, complex and interesting red wines, and the white Soave wines produced on the foothills of the Alps are enjoyed across the globe for their clarity and crispness. The region benefits from a range of micro-climates, protected from the harsh central European winters by the mountain range, and the generations of expertise and dedication to quality and innovation shown by the hundreds of wineries in the region.

Country: Italy

For several decades in the mid to late twentieth century, Italy's reputation for quality wines took a fairly serious blow. This was brought about partly due to lack of regulation in certain regions, and too much regulation in others. This led to several wineries in the beautiful and highly fertile region of Tuscany making the bold move to work outside of the law, which they saw as responsible for the drop in quality in Tuscan wines. They believed that they had the expertise and the generations of experience necessary with which to make truly excellent, world class wines, and set about doing just that. These 'Super Tuscans', as they came to be known, quickly inspired the rest of Italy to improve their produce, and now, Italian wine producers in the twenty-first century are widely recognised to be amongst the best in the world. Regulation and law began to change, and wine drinkers across the globe woke up to the outstanding wines coming out of Italy, which are continuing to improve and impress to this day.
