The 2005 Isola dei Nuraghi Turriga is incredibly primary at this stage. This dark, textured Turriga reveals impressive weight in its dark fruit, but the bouquet remains rather reticent. Sweet herbal and floral notes resonate on the finish. Today the 2005 remains a fruit-driven Turriga in need of at least another few years in bottle. Turriga is one of the thoroughbreds of the south. Readers who want to learn about this fascinating red may want to look at my recently published vertical on www.erobertparker.com. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025. ... More details

This hearty blend boasts a dark, inky color, with bright aromas of black fruit, cola, dried rosemary, black olive and spice. The finish is thick, concentrated and long lasting.

Dense, rich and focused, featuring ample blackberry liqueur, cassis and plum sauce notes that slowly fade to reveal layers of leather, dark tobacco and grilled game, leading to a long, grippy finish. Mostly Cannonau, with Carignano, Bovale Sardo and Malvasia Nera. Drink now.
Winery
Turriga is a powerful red wine that requires time in bottle to show its full complexity. Upon release, Turriga is densely packed with powerful tannins and tightly wound fruit, thus decanting is recommended. With time in bottle, Turriga reveals multiple layers of Mediterranean herbs, roasted coffee, spices, and licorice with a generous core of black and red fruit.

Country: Italy

It isn't difficult to understand why Italy is famed not just for the quality of its wines, but also for the vast variety and range of characteristics found in the wines there. The terrain of the country varies wildly, from the lush rolling green hills and valley of Tuscany, to the sun drenched rocky coasts of Sicily, the mountainous and alpine regions of the north, and the marshy lowlands of the east. Italy really does have a little bit of everything. Combine this huge range of landscapes with an almost perfect climate for grape cultivation, and you have a country seemingly designed for viticultural excellence. The results speak for themselves, and it is clear to see that wine has become an inseparable part of Italian culture as a result of its abundance and brilliance. Each village, city and region has a local wine perfectly matched with the cuisine of the area, and not an evening passes without the vast majority of Italian families raising a glass of locally sourced wine with pride and pleasure.
