Brimming with redcurrant and blackcurrant aromas, together with notes of mint and sage and a touch of spice. On the mid-weight palate there’s an excellent balance of restrained juiciness, healthy tannin and nice freshness. Still youthful. A cuvée of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 10% carmenere. The 2018 Terre di San Leonardo is peppery and floral with crushed wild berries and pomegranate. This is a soft and focused expression, with an inner herbal character and tart red and black berries that cascade across its mineral core. It leaves a staining of primary concentration and hints of sour citrus, along with a coating of round tannins that frames the expression well. The 2018 has a lean and very classic San Leonardo personality. That said, it will be best enjoyed with a meal.
Wine Spectator
A fresh red, with hints of iron and loamy earth underscoring blackberry, rose hip and cigar box notes layered with crisp tannins. Spiced finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carmenere. Drink now. 8,000 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.
Winery
COLOR: Brilliant ruby red with attractive depth. NOSE: The aromas are alcohol and fruit-rich when the wine is young, mellowing with bottle aging into ripe plum fruit layered over a faintly grassy background note. FLAVOR: Dry, soft and well-balanced on the palate, it reveals a pleasing bitterish twist in the finish. Good aromatic length.

Region: Trentino/Alto Adige

As the name suggests, the northern Italian wine region of Trentino-Alto Adige is made up of two separate areas, with Trento in the south, and the Adige river in the north. There are few parts of Italy quite as alluring for wine fans as Trentino-Alto Adige, as this is an area in which Italian wines become really quite unique and surprising. As the region is nestled in the foothills of the Italian Alps, it is quite a long way from the sun drenched islands of the south, or the rolling hillsides of central Italy. Indeed, the wines of Trentino-Alto Adige are packed full of fresh, vibrant alpine flavors and aromas, and are as influenced by the Germanic styles of wine making as they are influenced by those of the Italians, making the wines of this region really quite unusual, and utterly captivating. Wineries in Trentino-Alto Adige use both native and imported grape varietals for their wines, and they are generally considered to be amongst the finest in Italy.

Country: Italy

For several decades in the mid to late twentieth century, Italy's reputation for quality wines took a fairly serious blow. This was brought about partly due to lack of regulation in certain regions, and too much regulation in others. This led to several wineries in the beautiful and highly fertile region of Tuscany making the bold move to work outside of the law, which they saw as responsible for the drop in quality in Tuscan wines. They believed that they had the expertise and the generations of experience necessary with which to make truly excellent, world class wines, and set about doing just that. These 'Super Tuscans', as they came to be known, quickly inspired the rest of Italy to improve their produce, and now, Italian wine producers in the twenty-first century are widely recognised to be amongst the best in the world. Regulation and law began to change, and wine drinkers across the globe woke up to the outstanding wines coming out of Italy, which are continuing to improve and impress to this day.
