The 2014 Late Bottled Vintage Port was a few weeks from bottling when last seen a few years ago. Now seen in bottle, this is a blend of Touriga Nacional (35%), Tinta Roriz (35%) and Touriga Franca (30%) aged for four years in old oak. It comes in with a long cork, traditional style (but lightly filtered so as to still throw a sediment and not cold stabilized) and with 110 grams of sugar. This is in fine shape and a super effort for this dubious vintage. Showing fine depth and even better structure, this adds classic flavors and a big, powerful finish. This is a beauty that should age well and develop more. ... More details

With some bottle age, this Port has softened and filled with dark fruits and black-plum-jelly flavors. The spirit is well integrated, giving a wine that is well textured and lightly structured. Drink now.

Region: Porto

The city and region of Porto in Portugal has long been regarded as one of the most important wine producing areas on earth, and home to many of the world's most distinctive and characterful wines and fortified wines. So important was it, in the 18th century, it became part of the third ever protected wine region, following one in Hungary, and one in Italy. The wineries of Porto have generations of experience and expertise when it comes to working their land, and the fertile valley sides in the Douro region where Porto is found offers plenty of opportunities for growing a wide range of grape varietals. Most commonly, Porto wineries cultivate Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Tempranillo, Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional grapes, as these are the primary varietals used in the production of Porto's famous Port wines.

Country: Portugal

Benefiting from both the hot, dry Iberian climate as well as brisk Atlantic winds, Portugal is a perfectly situated country for vineyard cultivation and wine production. With a wine making history which stretches back thousands of years, it comes as little surprise that wine plays an important role in the cultural identity and practices of the country. The Phoenicians, the Carthaginians, the Greeks and the Romans all had a hand in forming Portugal as an important center for wine production, and over the millennia, this resulted in each region of this beautiful part of Europe producing its own distinctive wines easily identifiable and separate from neighboring Spain's. Today, the varied terroir and climate across Portugal allows a great range of wines to be made each year, from the fresh and dry Vinho Verde wines to the famous and widely drunk fortified Port wines, and many in between.
