Barrel sample. Domaine de Chevalier's white has a reputation for long aging, and that's the case with 2006. It is the structure that does it, very firm, almost tannic. But the fruit is also a star, ripe, dense, with green plum flavors and touches of spice. Give this at least 10 years.

Very tight and powerful, with lemon curd, honey, honeysuckle, vanilla bean and light toasty oak. Full-bodied, with a powerful layered palate. Superlong and rich. This goes on for minutes. Amazing what develops in the glass. Best after 2013.

Complex nose, fresh walnut, grapefruit peel, mango and nuances of eucalyptus. Very fine palate texture with vibrant acidity and a long finish.

An absolutely textbook great white Graves made from 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Semillon and aged nine months on its lees, this is a prodigious effort displaying notes of white flowers, currants, honeyed citrus, fig, and crushed rocks. The wine is very pure, with full body and high acidity, in a backward, almost tannic style. Give this wine at least 8-10 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 30 years.

Pale, green-tinged color. Sexy aromas of ripe fresh peach and apricot lifted by grapefruit and chlorophyll. Sappy and sweet, but almost gentle after the young 2007 despite its vibrant flavors of crystallized lemon peel and pungent chlorophyll. Finishes very fresh and long, with impressive energy. Owner Olivier Bernard describes this wine as more classic and vivid than the 2007, which he believes has more volume, structure and power, but also more generosity of texture. This will be a spectacular pair of vintages to compare over the next two or three decades.

When it comes to blended white wines, few regions in the world have a reputation quite as famed or respected as that of Bordeaux. The blended white wines of this special region are most commonly made using a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle grape varietals, although there are six other varietals allowed for the inclusion in Bordeaux white wines by French law.
