The 2018 Sk’windjiesvlei is simply pure Tinta Barocca aged in two 500-liter barrels. Deep purple in color, it has a tertiary, tree-bark-tinged bouquet with plenty of plump dark plummy and boysenberry fruit, all well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a slightly powdery texture and a fine bead of acidity toward an intense, powerful finish that takes you to the Capelands via the Douro Valley! Winery
Easier to drink than it is to spell, let alone pronounce for a non-Afrikaans speaker. Opaque, tannic and typically spicy, rich and brooding, it has flavors of damson, fig and liquorice and some added texture from the stems.
