Having tasted the white Generation XIX a year ago before it headed for the bottling line, its pedigree continues to shine. This is a serious, seductive and structured Sancerre. Full and pure, it blossoms in the mouth and opens up with its lees derived characters meeting stone fruit. The texture is its winning card; a chalky veil covers all sides of the mouth on the harmonious, refined finish. Gorgeous now and will continue to be over the coming decade. ... More details

The 2018 Sancerre Génération Dix-Neuf (XIX) opens with a very clear, pure and, given the warm and dry vintage, beautifully fresh and mineral-scented bouquet with flinty and yeasty notes intermingled with white fruit aromas. Generously fruity but also salty, pure and tensioned on the palate, this is a full-bodied and elegant but thrilling 2018 Sancerre with a spectacularly long and iodine-laced finish. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2022.
Winery
Pale gold yellow in colour with light green sheen brilliant, lively and clear a mature appearance. Mature and fresh nose. Finely expressed lemon scented honeydew, with hints of menthol, acacia then dried fruits, St George's mushrooms from meadows and iodised mineral. When opened hints of beeswax, gingerbread and menthol lemon appear. Full, fresh, rich and virile taste. An honest effect covered with mellowness well combined with acidity and halfway through it is joined by toasted nuts. The rich finish explodes in a hint of freshness accentuating the iodised mineral, Muscat and boxtree. Slight plant bitterness is mixed with long lasting quality. When older, it should change into terpenic aromas, white truffles on honeyed hazelnut background. A powerful fine wine, with dual complex / solidity and change / freshness.

green grapes

Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is widely considered to be one of the finest varietals of white wine grapes. The green skinned fruit is notable for ripening relatively early in the year, due to the fact that it prefers milder temperatures and cannot maintain its distinctive flavors in hot climates. As such, it has become a favorite grape varietal for wineries in many very different countries around the world, where it can benefit from brisk, coastal breezes and mild early summers. Sauvignon Blanc is revered for its freshness and zesty character, and generally produces wines which are dry and very crisp on the palate. However, there are a wide variety of wines produced from this wonderfully versatile grape – with many wineries preferring to age the fermented juices in oak, or allowing malolactic fermentation to add a creamier, buttery finish to the grassy and tropical, citrus flavors it often carries.

Region: Loire Valley

Despite being most closely associated with fine white wines made with the excellent Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc varietal grapes which thrive there, the region of the Loire Valley in France also produces several other quality wines. The sub-region of Chinon is highly esteemed for its excellent Cabernet Franc based red wines, packed full of unique character and excellent fruity flavors, and the sparkling crémant wines of the region are adored by people all over the world. The region benefits enormously from the fertile valley it sits in, and the oceanic breezes which blow over the area, cooling the vines and helping them reach full and balanced levels of ripeness. The Loire Valley is an ancient wine region, with a viticultural history which stretches back two thousand years and is stronger than ever today.

Country: France

French winemakers are subjected to several laws and regulations regarding the wines they produce, and how they can be labeled and sold. Such procedures are designed to increase the overall quality of the country's produce, and also to ensure that wines made in each particular region or appellation are of a character and type which is representative of the area. Thankfully for consumers of wine world-wide, the French have a particularly high reputation to uphold, and seem to do so flawlessly. Every year, wineries from all over France produce millions upon millions of bottles of fine wine, making the most of their native grape varieties and the excellent terrain which covers most of the country. From the expensive and exquisite red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, to the white wines and cremants of central France, the French are dedicated to providing the world with wines of the highest quality and most distinctive character.
