Cicinis is an amazing example of the depth and beauty of the Collio. The nose is specific and unique, with fresh herbs, citrus oils and white flowers all working in tandem to create a very distinctive expression of Sauvignon Blanc. The palate is vibrant and the judicious use of oak gives the wine stunning texture and complexity. Cicinis is an amazing example of the depth and beauty of the Collio. The 2020 Cicinis, a varietal Sauvignon Blanc, wafts up with pungent florals and lemony citrus tones. It’s silky in texture and more savory than anticipated, as saline-minerals and notes of tart green apple cascade across its brisk acid core. This ends spicy and long while leaving the mouth watering for more.

Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc grapes originated in France, where they are still widely grown today and treated to a wide range of processing practices – from aging in oak barrels, blending with other varietals, and undergoing malolactic fermentation to encourage a more mellow, buttery finish. These green skinned white wine grapes are highly versatile, and are now grown in several countries around the world which have the correct climatic conditions for getting the best results from them. Generally, Sauvignon Blanc varietal grapes prefer a cooler climate, as too much heat dulls the flavor present in the fruit. As such, they are generally grown in valleys and on coastal areas, where they can benefit from cooling breezes before being typically harvested early in the summer. The grapes themselves produce wines which are often very dry and crisp, yet full of a wide range of flavors including grasses, tropical fruits and citrus notes.

Up in the north of Italy, between the magnificent Italian Alps and the Adriatic sea, we find the beautiful region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. This special region produces some of Italy's finest and most distinctive white wines, notable for their uniqueness and differences from the white wines found elsewhere in the country. Due to the region's proximity to Slovenia and Austria, it comes as no real surprise to find excellent Riesling and Pinot Bianco grapes growing in the vineyards of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, prized for their ability to capture the finest features of their wonderful alpine terroir. Friuli-Venezia Giulia prides itself on the fact it is characterized by small, independent wineries, dedicated to producing unusual and characterful wines which are the very essence of the cool, mountainous region they work with.
