Even better, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Pure Roussanne (100% Roussanne) offers a vibrant, clean, medium to full-bodied style with a kiss of background oak as well as classy notes of dried pineapple, honeyed pears, sappy herbs, spice, and a touch of minerality. Just about perfectly balanced, with integrated acidity and one heck of a great finish, this is a great, fresher, incredibly elegant example of Roussanne that will benefit from a year in bottle and, I suspect, have 15-20 of overall longevity if stored properly. ... Full-bodied, generous, powerful and concentrated, despite the notable oak regime the fruit is to the fore. There's a touch of dryness on the tip of the tongue from the oak, but this is bombastic and flamboyant, for lovers of a big style of white Châteauneuf. Grown on galets roulés and sand, fermented then aged for eight months in new oak barriques. 4,000 bottles made.

The intense smoked nuts character of this full-bodied white Chateauneuf-du-Pape makes it stand out. Serious weight and richness here, but they’re typical for the roussanne grape. A citrus freshness keeps it on the straight and narrow at the long finish. From Demeter-certified biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

The 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Pure Roussane—all barrel fermented and aged eight months in new oak—features hints of toast and pencil shavings against a backdrop of white peach, melon and citrus. Medium to full-bodied, it's nicely balanced, with just-right plumpness on the palate, well-judged oak and a long, lingering finish. Tasted blind, I called the drinking window at 2021–2024, but I have updated it to better reflect my experience with the older vintages at the domaine. It might still be conservative.

A very friendly style, with a burst of verbena, white peach, green plum and honeysuckle flavors that are bright, well-defined and engaging. Unadorned through the finish too, giving it a refreshing feel. Drink now through 2024. 850 cases made, 25 cases imported

Region: Rhone Valley

In southern France, one of the primary wine regions responsible for the production of a fine and varied range of wines is the Rhone Valley. Split into two large sub-regions, this expansive valley benefits from micro-climates which allow the wineries to grow a vast array of fine grape varietals. The northern region is the more limited one in regards to the amount of varietals grown, focusing predominantly on raising excellent quality Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier vines for their distinctive and elegant range of wines. The southern region, on the other hand, has a beautifully Mediterranean climate, and is home to dozens of grape varietals which are used to produce white, red and rosé wines, alongside some of the most famous and widely loved blended wines in the world.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
