A fabulous Sherry at an incredible price! Palo Cortado combines the best qualities of amontillado (dry, delicate, walnut skins, hints of flor) and oloroso (caramelly, rich, dried figs, more oxidised) in an intense, complex whole. This is beautifully concentrated with nutty, spiced fruitcake density and a long milk chocolate finish. Stock up for Christmas and serve slightly chilled as an aperitif or with cheese. Striking a precise balance of sweetness, salty mineral and lime, this Palo Cortado contrasts caramel and exotic spice with limestone earthiness and the taste of salted almonds. A fine example of the style.

Dark amber in color, with maple, walnut and other sweet-meets-nutty aromas. It's a bit tangy, but being as zesty as it is propels maple, white chocolate and apricot flavors. This one has depth and a very long finish, which makes it a regal but still approachable palo cortado. Overall it's similar to an amontillado, but with more pulsing, piercing acidity.

This rare style of sherry is difficult to produce at a moderate price point, as this shows. Dark and ripe, this is very nutty but bone dry. Quite an austere finish. Drink now.

From the deep and intense Rioja wines, or the dry and refreshing Ruedas, from Tempranillos to Verdejos, the range and quality of Spanish wines is always going to impress and fascinate. With several thousand years of traditions and expertise leading the way, Spanish wineries are currently producing some of the most flavorful and interesting wines to come out of Europe, striving to overcome the reputation problems the country suffered in the mid to late twentieth century. Despite being one of the largest producers of wine in the world, with billions of bottles being filled each year, Spanish wine producers are more interested in quality over quantity than ever before. The results of this are some truly world class wines rivaling even the finest produce of France in regards to balance, character and flavor, gaining new fans and enthusiasts every day.
