Big flavors of apple and pear cider, clearly holding their character through the influence of the cask, here bringing flamed orange peel, toasted cinnamon, and a hint of fresh vanilla. The finish is long and complex, with a slight bitter tannin. (Finalist) (Top 100) - 2022 ULTIMATE SPIRITS CHALLENGE ... More details

The aroma of this brandy is pure concentrated vanilla richness, while the palate is more drying and complex. Soft vanilla and toffee give way to hints of red fruit, orange peel and oak, leading into a long finish marked by cinnamon and clove.
Winery
This limited edition is a tribute to Japan, one of the very first asian countries to which Boulard has exported its calvados. This XO is a blend of Calvados Pays d'Auge aged in French oak barrels in our cellar in Normandy before a finish of several weeks in new japanese casks of Mizunara oak. This oak is endemic of the japanese archipelago and is used to age the best japanese whiskeys. Boulard is the first Calvados house to associate it with its eaux-de-vie. Colour: Bright amber. Nose: Bouquet with notes of incense, green wood, tobacco, coffee and linden. Palate: Generous with hints of red fruits, green hazelnuts and candied apple. Finale: Complex, flavour of stewed fruits and slightly peppery.

Country: France

French winemakers are subjected to several laws and regulations regarding the wines they produce, and how they can be labeled and sold. Such procedures are designed to increase the overall quality of the country's produce, and also to ensure that wines made in each particular region or appellation are of a character and type which is representative of the area. Thankfully for consumers of wine world-wide, the French have a particularly high reputation to uphold, and seem to do so flawlessly. Every year, wineries from all over France produce millions upon millions of bottles of fine wine, making the most of their native grape varieties and the excellent terrain which covers most of the country. From the expensive and exquisite red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, to the white wines and cremants of central France, the French are dedicated to providing the world with wines of the highest quality and most distinctive character.
