Wine Spectator
Delivers creamy lemon curd, grilled peach and buttery apple pastry flavors that are polished, smooth and appealing, with a fresh thread of acidity and a spicy note on the long finish. Drink now. 23,500 cases made.
Winery
Full, buttery and with beautiful fruit. To get a chardonnay of this quality, our winemaker chose grapes from two vineyards on the California coast: Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands. The cool maritime climate ensures that the characteristics of the different grape varieties are well reflected. The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed. Fifty-seven percent is fermented in oak barrels, after which ninety percent of the grapes are aged in French oak barrels. After that, it is up to our winemakers to create the blend with their taste and experience. Monterey County Chardonnay is light golden yellow in color and has aromas of white flowers, acacia, exotic fruits and thanks to the - lagering on wood - vanilla.

Varietal: Chardonnay

Despite having its origins in western France, Chardonnay's immense popularity and flexibility quickly meant that before long, there wasn't a wine producing country in the world which wasn't investing in this fascinating and versatile grape varietal. Today, Chardonnays manage to win fine wine competitions and satisfy supermarket shoppers simultaneously, due to the fact that this grape varietal can take on many characteristics and features of where it is grown and how it is handled. Indeed, this green skinned grape is renowned for not having so much unique flavor within the fruit, but is very sensitive to the features of the terroir it is grown in, as well as to aging As such, it isn't unusual to find bottles of single variety Chardonnay wine described as holding notes of white stone, mountain waters, or other such geological features alongside the more predictable fruit descriptions This makes Chardonnay grape varietal wines an exciting world to delve into – full of surprises, full of delights.

Region: California

California as a wine producing region has grown in size and importance considerably over the past couple of centuries, and today is the proud producer of more than ninety percent of the United States' wines. Indeed, if California was a country, it would be the fourth largest producer of wine in the world, with a vast range of vineyards covering almost half a million acres. The secret to California's success as a wine region has a lot to do with the high quality of its soils, and the fact that it has an extensive Pacific coastline which perfectly tempers the blazing sunshine it experiences all year round. The winds coming off the ocean cool the vines, and the natural valleys and mountainsides which make up most of the state's wine regions make for ideal areas in which to cultivate a variety of high quality grapes.

Indeed, as much as eighty-nine percent of all wines to come out of the United States are produced in California, where the fertile soils and sloping mountain sides, coupled with the long, hot summers provide ideal conditions for producing high quality, European style red, white and rosé wines. With over a million acres of the country under vine, the United States sits comfortably as the fourth largest wine producer in the world, where imported grape varietals from all over the Old World are processed using a successful blend of traditional and contemporary techniques.
