The 2019 Malbec is a real head-turner. Ample and explosive on the palate, with tremendous depth, the 2019 packs a huge amount of fruit into its full-bodied frame. Red plum, pomegranate, rose petal and spice are all kicked up in this flamboyant, exuberant Malbec. In a word: stunning.

The 2019 Malbec sports a dense purple, almost blue color and a great nose of ripe cassis and blueberry fruits as well as violets, peppery herbs, and graphite. I love its balance, and it has terrific purity, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Give it a few years.

Rated 92 - Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Malbec charges out of the gate with expressive notes of baked blackberries, stewed plums, and black raspberries, plus hints of tar, dark chocolate, and fertile loam. Full-bodied, the palate has a sturdy frame of grainy tannins and tons of freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing long and savory. 498 cases were made. - The Wine Independent

The 2019 Malbec Mt. Veeder features almost candied blackberries and black cherries on the nose, yet there's also a loam-like earthiness to steer the wine toward savory. Medium to full-bodied, with a silky texture, this bottling isn't that long or complex, but it offers something a bit different and fun.

This wine is elegant and austere in style, refined in tannin and blue fruit. The oak is subdued and adds spice to the other earthy notes of dried herb and clove.

Varietal: Malbec

In recent years, the Malbec single variety wines coming out of many New World countries have been gaining a lot of attention as a result of their fantastic plummy flavors, and strong, full-bodied nature. However, Malbec grape varietals have been cultivated for centuries in many Old World countries for these very characteristics, and they have long had a strong presence in some of the best blended wines ever produced by leading wineries. Their high tannin level and heavy juiciness means they are ideal for big, powerful full-bodied wines packing a strong fruit-forward punch on the palate, and their beautiful deep red color has long been admired and upheld as a mark of quality. The Malbec grapes are probably at their best when blended with other, mellower and more rounded grape varietals, such as a Merlot, as this allows their best features and their fruity flavor to shine, whilst being softened somewhat and made lighter and more drinkable.
