The 2018 Pinot Noir Knox Alexander is a dense, powerful wine. Dark red cherry, plum, tobacco, cedar, kirsch, blood orange, rose petal and healthy dose of new oak all meld together effortlessly. There's real character and depth here. Another year or two in bottle will be hugely beneficial in helping the elements meld together even more fully. Vineyard sites are Bien Nacido and a bit of Le Bon Climat.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Knox Alexander, which includes 35% stems, reveals a more medium ruby hue (I doubt that it's been filtered) as well as a complex, nuanced style in its spiced red and black fruits as well as notes of new leather, spice box, and loamy earth. Medium-bodied, nicely balanced, and textured, it's another unquestionably Burgundian-styled beauty from this team with lots to love.

Another gorgeous Pinot from ABC. Beautiful aromas of spice, rose petals, cherry/berry fruit are amplified on the palate. Named after Jim Clendenen’s son, this wine is from the best sections of Bien Nacido Vineyard and Le Bon Climat.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir translates as 'black pine' in French, and is named as such due to the extremely inky color of the fruits, which hang in bunches the shape of a pine cone. Wineries often struggle with Pinot Noir vines, as more than most red wine grape varietals, they fail in hot temperatures and are rather susceptible to various diseases which can be disastrous when hoping for a late harvest. Thanks to new technologies and methods for avoiding such problems, however, the Pinot Noir grape varietal has spread across the world to almost every major wine producing country. Why? Quite simply because this is considered to be one of the finest grape varietals one can cultivate, due to the fact that it can be used to produce a wide range of excellent wines full of interesting, fresh and fascinating flavors Their thin skins result in a fairly light-bodied wine, and the juices carry beautiful notes of summer fruits, currants and berries, and many, many more.

When it comes to New World wine regions, it is widely agreed that many of the finest wines are grown and produced in California. As in much of California, Santa Barbara benefits from the blazing west coast sunshine, coupled with cooling Pacific Ocean breezes and fogs, which help to temper the grapes and slow the ripening process, thus ensuring more flavor and aroma in the resulting wines. Although Santa Barbara is a relatively young wine region, it is home to many wineries who are extremely dedicated when it comes to demonstrating just how good their terroir is, and how characterful their region's wines can be.
