The 2017 Chardonnay Bearwallow Vineyard, from a site in the Anderson Valley, has an incredibly Burgundian bouquet of liquid minerality, white flowers, spice, and crushed citrus that develops remarkable complexity and depth as it sits in the glass. Medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, it has beautiful balance, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It needs 2-3 years of bottle age (it still offers plenty of pleasure today) and will drink beautifully for 7-8 years or more. ... More details

The 2017 Chardonnay Bearwallow Vineyard has a minerally nose to begin, with crushed shell and stone scents over a core of warm white peaches, pie crust, lime peel, fresh apple and pear fruit plus hints of spring blossoms. Light to medium-bodied, it offers intense, lively fruits with tangy acidity and a long, minerally finish.

The 2017 Chardonnay Bearwallow Vineyard is creamy, ample and super-expressive, with superb textural richness and tons of character. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and light tropical overtones all grace this supple, beautifully textured Chardonnay. This is such a delicious wine now, but it will likely acquire more complexity in time.

Varietal: Chardonnay

For most people, the Chardonnay grape varietal is one of the quintessential white wine grapes. It isn't difficult to understand why; Chardonnay may well have started off in regions of France (where it is still used widely today in both single variety white wines as well as sparkling Champagne wines) but it is now grown in every wine producing country in the world. Indeed, it was the New World that took Chardonnay to some exciting new extremes – this relatively neutral grape has the fantastic ability to carry much of its terroir in the bottle, resulting in a fascinating range of flavors and styles. Furthermore, Chardonnay is one of the few white wine grapes which is well suited to aging, as can be seen in some of the excellent produce consistently coming out of Burgundy, and elsewhere in the world. With everything from buttery, creamy characteristics to vibrant tropical fruit notes, Chardonnay will never cease to surprise and impress.
