Sourced from Rorick Heritage Vineyard, a 2,000 ft. elevation vineyard high in the Sierra Foothills with steeply-planted vines and limestone-rich soils. This rare geological gem is located in Calaveras County, outside the old mining town of Murphys, and has a stunning diversity of sun exposures, elevations, temperatures and soils. Our Albariño block has Northeast facing slopes of schist and limestone which see warm days and cool nights driven by the high elevation. The Albariño was hand-picked on September 14th, whole-cluster pressed and fermented with native yeast. The wine then aged on its lees, with no sulfur added, for six months in neutral oak before bottling. The result is a refreshingly crisp wine with lingering notes of cantaloupe melon, green apple and a burst of salinity. It finishes with mouth-watering acidity that begs for another sip.

Varietal: Albarino

The pale skinned grapes of the Albarino varietal have been grown in and around Spain and Portugal for almost a thousand years, where they are highly enjoyed and prized by the locals for their distinctive aroma, and sharp, tart acidity levels. Over the past century, their influence has spread to the New World, and many vineyards keen to emulate the white wines of Spain have had considerable success with this varietal. The light bodied wines which are produced from the Albarino grapes have wonderfully aromatic properties, and carry ripe flavors of soft summer fruits, apricot and peach, with a mild and pleasantly bitter after taste brought on by their thick skins. Because of their acidic nature, they are a fantastic match for many Spanish foods, and are best served chilled on a hot day.

The long stretches of coastline and the valleys and mountainsides which come off them are ideal areas for vine cultivation, and for over a century now, wineries have found a perfect home in the hot, dry state, with many of the wines produced here going on to reach world class status.
